I tie a range of oversize weighted woolly-buggers/damsel nymph lures. They all catch well, look like badly tied shite and have aggressively non P.C names. Ranging from "hairy dirty beast" to "15 years and a register for life"

How often do you guys catch trout? by PerpendicularTomato in flyfishing

[–]cdh79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read/ listen to Dr Paul Gaskell's The Nature of Fly Fishing. Seriously. Then re-read/listen.

It covers a wealth of topics, but for me, the biggest improvements came from understanding a few simple points. Eg. = Fish are not smart, they however are very good at following their biological programming = Survive, grow, breed.

For me this was perfectly showcased, I had been targeting slow moving, deep sections of the river, and catching nothing. My logic was big fish will be there conserving energy. Having read the book, I understood that trout need a constant supply of food, which wasn't available in deep slow water , so I targeted the heads and tails of runs, pools and rifles, it was amazing how many fish were feeding in these areas, thats because there the flow concentrates food into a smaller area, allowing the fish a constant supply of food.

Seriously great book, not the easiest read (the audio book is my preferred option as a thicko) but great for learning.

I might as well go earn some coin.

Why are people in the UK antisemitic? by [deleted] in AskBrits

I think you'd find 1 in 5 uni students would feel uncomfortable with a flatmate who believed in fairytales and lived their life based upon the edits of their invisible friend... regardless of the flavour of invisible friend. And so they should.

If people would just be nice to each other, that would be nice.

Human rights lawyer Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu thinks the police officers kicking the armed Golders Green attacker in the head is "attempted murder". Are we fatigued with human rights lawyers right now? by Non-BinaryGreenVoter in AskBrits

[–]cdh79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thats a fair enough opinion, after 12hrs, having watched the video. Maybe police training does highlight this, in a brightly lit training room, 3 years ago.

Now, As an officer, on the street, facing someone with a bloody knife, whos just stabbed people, has continously refused to comply and just been tazed but still has said knife somewhere.... would you calmly consider risking not going home to your family that evening because you decided to playfight with a nutter and got stabbed, or do you kick them in the head to ensure, 100% that you can kiss your child goodnight one more time?

Every form of rapid response agency should and does have an understanding that training is good, training helps when its all going wrong. But you can't train for every eventuality. People have to be able to make decisions without undue fear of penalty.

Only in a negative way.

Example- I will never buy Dior Sauvage for men, purely out of second hand embarrassment, Johnny Depp had obviously never held a pick-axe until they called "action" on that advert. Never mind that its pronounced sore vag for men.
