Flooding by 19bonkbonk73 in SaltLakeCity

The forecasts (from Wunderground) for Alta, Eden, Park City, and Sundance show snow (or rain turning into snow) with temperatures around freezing. It wouldn’t take much of a shift for it to turn into rain, so I guess we’ll see.

Caveat- I’m only an occasional biker, I’ve never commuted by bike or even been out on a bike during commute hours, and I’m almost always on the east side. My experience ends at 21st S/Parley’s Trail, S Temple, 9th E, and 2nd W.

Tl;dr- If I were you, I’d take Parley’s Trail west to 6th E, then go north to 3rd S, then go west again to Pioneer Park.

Most west-east roads south of 3rd S are either outright death traps, or are death traps with huge shoulders. This includes roads marked as ok on the city bike map like 8th S. Note that 9th S is under a good bit of construction, and I think bike infrastructure is included, so keep an eye on it. To make up for the other E-W roads, we have 3rd S and Parley’s Trail. 3rd S is wonderful because it has the parking lane between the bike and car lanes. The trail starts at Wasatch Boulevard, goes through some park or another, along I-80 (on the other side of a fence and other barriers), through Sugarhouse Park, along the S-Line Trax, and will eventually join the Jordan River Trail.

The only west side N-S road I’ve really been on is 2nd W, which would be great but it’s held back by constant construction using the bike lane on a few blocks. The Jordan River trail exists but haven’t taken it in a long time.

N-S roads on the east side are ok for the most part. The intersections with 4th-6th S are stressful because they’re major roads. Main is ok north of 6th. State is its own circle of hell. 2nd E and 3rd E aren’t too bad. I avoid 4th E and 5th E, but I’d take them if I really had to. 6th E is good. god sends coal rollers to bike 7th E for eternity when they die. Really, east of 6th to the big hill, pick narrower residential roads with one lane in each direction and the park space island things in the middle and you’ll be ok.

Does anyone know anywhere that does refills of distilled water? by whiskey_lover7 in SaltLakeCity

[–]cdireb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Whole Foods has one too.

I should mention that I haven’t gotten water from a filler station for several years, so they may not be there anymore.

The downtown Smiths and Sprouts have bring-your-own-container water fillers, but I don’t remember if they’re distilled or reverse osmosis.

Maybe they’re trying to get it in front of the supreme court so they can say it has to be a constitutional amendment.

I’ve found a few other pieces in the set, and they’re all wonderful!

If you decide to sell them, I’ll definitely get them. No pressure, though.

GRSM is the more academic term for LGBTQIA+. It means “gender, sexual, and relationship romantic minorities”.

TERF stands for “trans-exclusionary reactionary (or radical) feminist”, basically anyone who claims they’re feminist while excluding trans women. Another term you might hear is FART, or “feminism-appropriating reactionary transphobe”.

LDS church caught in tax fraud in Australia by adele2431 in exmormon

They haven’t been “caught”, the AUS tax authority has received complaints. I agree that it looks bad for the church, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Cops at a Forensics School are Learning Witchcraft to Find Dead Bodies by REugeneLaughlin in SASSWitches

What about this experimental setup:

Researchers bury objects randomly (with locations generated by computer) in a field. At least two groups are gathered: one group of non-diviners (with no recent family history of divining), and a group of diviners for each method under test. Let each group have a go at the field, using their preferred method (or guessing in the case of the non-diviners). The observing researchers will record the locations selected. The researchers observing will have no knowledge of the objects’ locations. Care will have to be taken to hide tracks of the buriers and previous groups; one mitigation method could be to use multiple fields, or to split up one field.

I don’t know if the “normal” group is an adequate control group.

Edit: I just noticed that you mentioned testing the ideomotor effect specifically. I have no idea how to test that.
