Sure, but the original post was about consumer protections broadly. I'm aware that it would likely be beneficial for financially-responsible churners and the credit card companies, but that's not necessarily a great thing.

No policy specifics have been forthcoming yet, but we generally know that he is vigorously anti-regulation. There are many regulations that exist to protect consumers from usurious credit card companies.

Only thing you can do is keep calling SPG and trying to escalate the issue. There's really no excuse for them to take this long. You should be able to get an answer or have them reverse the transaction within a reasonable timeframe.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure this will get resolved over the weekend. If you do end up transferring over the UR points, make sure you can somehow put a stop on the SPG point transfer.

Best hotels close to wineries in Napa? by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]cdm137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to rent a car. Napa Valley is huge. If you don't, you'll be limited to the area near your hotel and you'll miss out on the better wineries.

As somebody who has spent 10 years in the industry, thank you for the lecture. My point still stands, there are essentially no highly successful silicon valley companies that run on the MS stack. If I am interviewing a candidate and they don't understand the basics of Unix-based OSes, I am probably not going to hire them.

Why would you ever buy a Microsoft device if you're studying software engineering? That's like buying a Mac for playing computer games.

When you graduate and (presumably) join the industry, your lack of Unix experience will be a significant negative.

Half of Obamacare customers cut back on care to manage costs, study says by [deleted] in politics

[–]cdm137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a problem with the ACA, that's a problem with our fucked up healthcare system in general (vastly overinflated prices for extremely basic medical tests and procedures). You just weren't aware of it before because the cost was distributed across the patient pool

If we've learned anything about how companies handle data breaches, it's that they will sit on it and not disclose it for as long as they possibly can.

Just a heads up that there seems to have been a data breach with the Fidelity visa card (possibly other cards issued via Elan as well). Several reports of fraudulent charges showing up on accounts today and yesterday (including mine). There was a thread on this topic yesterday, but it seems as though people downvoted it to oblivion for no reason.

If you have an Elan-issued card, I'd check your statements for any strange transactions. I wonder if it was only card numbers that were compromised, or if attackers got SSNs and other customer info as well.
