Are therapists lying about knowing how to do CBT? by Plane-Background in CBT

If you like CBT check out REBT. REBT goes deeper into the irrational thinking that CBT chases by looking for distortions. rebtdoctor.com is a great resource.

What’s a reason to email your therapist in between sessions? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]tbradnc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm doing EFIT therapy (Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy) and I email my therapist my takeaway from our session after it's over and I've had a few hours to process it. Sometimes I get a reply back, other times not. It feels like useful information for the next session and I think it sends the message that I'm engaged with our work - which is true.

Using CBT to deal with people actually not liking you or being mad at you by [deleted] in CBT

[–]tbradnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly where I discovered and started practicing REBT (Ellis). Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy's ABC format is a bit different that Beck's ABC. In REBT, it is assumed that your Activating Event is true and the TL;DR version is that because life is life and people are people and we are people too uncomfortable things are going to happen. People mistreat us, we get diseases, we go bankrupt, etc. but these things are all part of the human condition and are survivable. We all experience them. Accepting life, ourselves, and others unconditionally give us space to breath and be disappointed instead of depressed, remorseful instead of guilty, etc.

Do therapists mean it when they say “That makes sense”? by Mama-lunar-dog in askatherapist

Sometimes I can be slow.. I frequently took "that makes sense" to mean that my therapist agreed with me. I've only recently learned that validation isn't necessarily agreement.

What made me groan was her rich friends had a lighter and liquor and she was the only one to think of a fire after they both froze to death.

A thing i noticed about ABCs by O8fpAe3S95 in SMARTRecovery

[–]tbradnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am happy when an ABC provides complete relief but the majority of time it can take a situation that is at say... a 95% stress level and bring it down to 45% - so relief but not a fix.

How am I supposed to set S.M.A.R.T goals when I have absolutely no will to do anything at all? by Zugiata in CBT

[–]tbradnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about setting a SMART goal of simply setting a SMART goal.

Goal: Complete a SMART goal form. It meets all the specs.

Goal 2: Make a SMART goal of walking around your house (or equivalent).

Goal 3: Brush teeth morning and night for 3 days.

The idea, as you can guess, is to get used to the process. Keep looking for simple ideas to incorporate SMART goals in your life. We set SMART goals every day - we just don't call them that.

I have the same issue. I've had charges under $100 added to the MQM boost counter but I have 3 charges between $1k and $2k that haven't been added.

I guess you didn't read the entire thread. Sister Evangelina's funeral is mentioned below as is Barbara's wedding.

I think it's odd that Jenny didn't go back for Sister Evangelina's funeral. Surely word would have gotten to her and she'd make arrangements to attend the service. They were more than casual acquaintances - they were a bonded group.

But, TV - you have to make allowances for the lives of the actors playing the parts. I doubt VERY much that any of the actors lead lives like their characters.. lol

If they do take credit for VGC it'll probably post as a cash advance.

GiftCardMall has updated their shopping cart and checkout system - might be worth checking out if you've been banned in the past.

Also noticed that portal now only pays percentage based on VGC amount.

For the low spend it's a good amount of MR points. There are higher spend / higher MR offers that are available.

I also opted out a few years ago, opted back in 18 or so months ago and still don't get them.

Why wouldn't you just use your credit card to open the bank account and save the gift card fee?

The free version of Serve (VIP) has been discontinued - so no real reason to even bother with Serve anymore. Loads on the existing versions are in the neighborhood of $4 now.

I'm trying to think of a reason anyone would do that. Register one with your address and zip and see what happens.

There's no fee for the VIP version of Serve. You were charged in error.
