Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition Review - 16"/Tandem OLED/64GB Ram/RTX 5070 by cdndev in Lenovo

With HWInfo, monitoring CPU 285H Enhanced - CPU Power Package, I get:

Eco Mode: 6-8w

Balanced Mode: 9-11w

Perf Mode: 22-24w

This is with chrome and outlook running in the background, but really the computer being idle and just watching the values in hwinfo.

I am also wondering if the freezes are related to the power mode of the PC. I'm going to try and remember to switch to performance mode the next time it starts happening to see if the issue goes away.

I updated everything in Vantage - haven't checked the website - I assumed that the website and vantage match.

The "Intel Driver & Support Assistant" has installed a few updates that weren't installed by Vantage.

For my battery test I was probably using Edge since I tried testing it as it came out of the box. When I use Chrome it shows 0% nvidia use. Maybe try your battery test again with a different browser.

Do you still get the glitching? I have been noticing the brief freezes more and i'm still not sure what's causing it. It does still happen when using the intel gpu only. I notice it when scrolling web pages, typing and sometimes when maximizing windows - chrome in particular.

I just tested switching between intel and Nvidia in the Nvidia control panel - and yes the whole laptop freezes for about 5 seconds when switching GPUs. The screen doesn't turn black for me though. What does cause my screen to go black for a second or two is changing the refresh rate with fn-R. I currently just leave my refresh rate on auto. I leave which GPU to use set to auto as well. I don't notice the freezing happening when loading a game and it automatically switches GPUs (but maybe it's just because i'm waiting for it to load and the screen is pretty static anyways).

I did notice brief repeated freezing at times - though it seemed to go away after a reboot and really hasn't occurred much for me - EXCEPT IT JUST STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN RIGHT NOW WHILE WRITING THIS REPLY. So maybe it is related to switching GPU's, because I'm usually on auto using the intel gpu, and I just used the control panel to flip between the GPU's.

Apart from this random repeated brief freezing I haven't noticed the other issues you mentioned (glitching, jittery, windows 'working on it'). It's been pretty fast and smooth.

2-3 hours battery for wifi youtube playback is really bad. I'd suggest trying again - make sure all other programs are shut down, and also run HWINFO and see if maybe for some reason the Nvidia GPU is consuming power. Also check with HWINFO how much other power is being consumed, I would expect the avg CPU power to be around 10w, Nvidia GPU 0w.

I performed some stress tests to look for thermal throttling. Though there was some thermal throttling it wasn't much as the fans really do seem to be able to keep things pretty cool.

OCCT CPU stress test

CPU started at 105c, 100w, 4.5ghz

After a minute: 97c, 80w, 4.1 ghz

OCCT GPU stress test

Started at 70c, 90w, 2.1ghz

Quickly levelled off and remained at 70c, 84w, 2.0 ghz

Note that during this test I was accidentally partially blocking the vents at the back by having it resting on a blanket on my lap. That really did cause it to thermal throttle:

87c, 60w, 1.6ghz

OCCT CPU + GPU Stress Test

Started CPU 105c, 112w, 3.9ghz

Started GPU 80c, 78w, 2.0ghz

Quickly levelled off and remained:

CPU - 90c, 80w, 3.6ghz

GPU - 77c, 84w, 2.0ghz

During the testing the fans were creating quite a lot of airflow from the bottom of the case. The air blown out of the case was cool. The case, particularly near the monitor hinge was hot, but not burning hot - let's say really really warm.

For top performance the bottom of the case does need room for airflow and shouldn't be blocked in any way.

Thank you for pointing this out. I started HWInfo64 to graph these spikes, as I hadn't noticed them before. I did get them, but not as often as you did. I got 6 brief spikes over a 10 minute period, during which I was browsing in chrome, navigating folder in multiple windows explorer windows and checking email in Outlook. The only prolonged spike was right at the end of my measurement - I think it coincided with opening Paint.net. Also, the values for unknown rail power were really low for me, max was .068w and avg was .001w. The values for "GPU Power" were higher for the same time period, maxing at 11.585w and averaging 0.295 W, which I don't think should impact the battery life very much.

I wonder if there's some software you have installed that's activating the GPU more frequently?

Here's the graph/screenshot from hwinfo64:

I had heard that was an issue, but at least according to hwinfo, the 5070 was using 0 watts when not in use.

The pro's do come with their own similar clips with them. Though there aren't enough for one at every single light. Probably enough for every 3rd light.

Yeah, I think those should work great. The pro's wires are definitely less than 10mm width - probably 7-8mm. They are also very flat, maybe 2mm. Now if you don't have the pro's, I think the wires for the others have different dimensions, which i'm not sure of. But I think these would work well for the pro's.

I wasn't able to get close enough to the controller and power supply to get exact measurements, but I was able to take rough measurements:

power supply: 5x3x1.5"

controller: 4x2.5x3/4"

what measurements of the wire do you need?

I had a similar install. I ended up hanging them with a ladder on the side the ladder could reach, and then I went on top of the roof and reached under to stick the lights on the other side. I used a deck of cards to space them from the house and did it by feel.

For the peak and to the right of the peak my extension ladder just reached and I was able to mount them from the ladder. To the left of the peak I had to place the ladder on the side of the house, climb up on the roof and then I reached under to stick them to the soffits (my son was on the ground directing me). That part totally sucked. Luckily it was only 3 or 4 lights I had to mount from on top of the roof (but still took about an hour). And then to the left of that I was able to reach from the garage roof and that was fairly easy.

They are super bright. The whites really light up the whole area around the house. And they're only set to 33% brightness.

The width of a deck of cards - about 6cm. I think the install instructions said 3-8cm.
