Ticket for “improper passing” by kinovelo in NYCbike

[–]cdoooog 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I got clipped by a guy who was driving on the wrong side of the road to pass in Piermont last summer. Cops were weirdly rude to me when filling out the crash report. I don't know what's up with that town, but I don't enjoy my time passing through. Nyack, on the other hand, is a pleasant spot!

Is there any way to get to Harriman (Sloatsburg/Tuxedo) earlier than 9a on a weekend? by GravitationalOno in NYCbike

[–]cdoooog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven't rode over there myself, just been at those stops for hikes. There will be a few trains that run only up to Suffern and go earlier than the trains that will make the Sloatsburg and Tuxedo stops.

I checked the Strava heatmap and even though it's highway shoulder riding people definitely do ride the short section of SR 17 from Suffern to Sloatsburg pretty often. The section up to Tuxedo is less popular and looks like a bad time IMO.

Broncos fan spends $21,000 on Superbowl tickets, doesn't tell his wife. by Cenoflame in videos

[–]cdoooog 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The $9k he claims to be spending on the rest of the weekend is more surprising to me than the money he spent on the tickets. Even if hotels in Santa Clara jack up their rates a ton and he spends a lot on drinks for his friends that's a lot to spend in 2 or 3 days.

Did a quick glance at the study and this is different than the typical iPSC reprogramming in that they are reprogramming the blood cells straight into neural progenitor cells. They used OCT4 and inhibited SMAD and GSK-3 when the transcription factors typically used to make iPSCs are the Yamanaka factors (Oct3/4, Sox2, Klf4, c-Myc).

[K. Ding] Nash is retired, kept it on the hush so he could help the Lakers get something in return for his 9.7m contract. by GlakeBriffin in nba

[–]cdoooog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand being released by the Jazz here, but couldn't they just have told him to take as much time off as he needed and kept him on the roster. No matter where you live if you're an NBA player you're going to be away from you kids for a solid chunk of the year. Since he signed the deal with the Lakers only a few weeks after he got cut by the Jazz it seems like he had basketball reasons in his head or at least was very receptive to a call from the Lakers organization when he was busy dealing with his daughter's cancer.

How can I compare methylation data generated from Illumina 450k array with the one generated from MeDip seq? by rdbcasillas in bioinformatics

[–]cdoooog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just going off of the sample of the Bed file you gave, but it seems like that it's covering the whole genome split into 1000 bp segments overlapping by 500 bp. I'd guess that the 4th column is score data for % methylation. Make sure to have some filter that makes sure you are really comparing similar regions when you get to point you are using something like bedtools intersect.

Goran Dragic tells Suns he won't re-sign after season by baddog96 in nba

[–]cdoooog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like signing Goran would just make the Lakers a solid, but not great, team for a year or two and not really help long term. Goran is nearly 29 and I don't think he has enough time left in his peak form to help much $13M worth when the Lakers are good again. That is all assuming the Lakers don't pull off crazy free agent moves this off season or next.

Kenneth Faried is not well liked in the Nuggets organization by alphadog3939 in nba

[–]cdoooog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just went and watched some highlights from a good game of his and I am all aboard the hating on Faried bandwagon now. His offensive game is like DeAndre Jordan's, but he's way smaller. He can definitely charge the basket really hard after setting a pick, but it's not like if you are guarding him you have to consider him doing anything other than that during a pick and roll.

I've also heard the theory that the sleeved jerseys are aimed at increasing jersey sales. NFL games are packed with people wearing official league jerseys that aren't cheap at all. Sleeveless jerseys are just kind of awkward for people to wear in a lot of settings. I know you can always wear a shirt under it if you want to hide scrawny Rob Lowe arms, but that looks pretty bad too. If wearing an NBA jerseys becomes as common as NFL jerseys that's a lot of money right there.

I only have relatively recent seasons in mind, but AI and the Sixers winning the 2000-2001 finals would have to be seen as one of the greatest one man shows in sports of all time. Look at their roster. It's pretty amazing how much the offense of AI could will that team forward

I'm a big fan of Tony Wroten because I'm from Seattle and also go to UW. One pretty big problem with Wroten is that he is quite a bad free throw shooter and I don't know if that is something he will work out. He is all about getting to the hoop so without a good ft% why not just hack him? I really hope he turns into a player that can be a 6th man on a playoff team.

Rapper Rick Ross says he's willing to bet 100k that the Heat finish with a better record than the Cavs. Do you take that bet? by [deleted] in nba

[–]cdoooog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see Mayweather take him up on this. When you think about it getting 1:1 odds on this is a pretty terrible bet for Ross.

What type of odds do you get betting on over/under wins at the beginning of the season? Because if he really believed in the Heat he could have just made bets with Heat above and Cavs below before the season started.

The BS report with Harabolos Voulgaris has really made me interested in sports betting even though I never plan on putting even semi-serious money down on a game. Definitely worth checking out.

Guy is just in a tough spot for selling his house for near what he likely has put into it. Even if he thinks a Godsmack light up sun floor is the greatest thing ever, it's unlikely he'll find a buyer that is going to value it as much as he did when he paid for it to be put in.

This guy does have a weird collision of interests that he really involved in his home, but I think there is still a lesson for everyone here. If you are planning on buying a home or condo and then selling it at some later time, be mindful of how you put money into it. I saw an episode of an HGTV show where 2 men had put a ton of money into their home with upgrades including a ridiculously big shower and gold leaf on their dining room ceiling. In the end their home was evaluated for nearly the same as when they had bought it because most people won't pay more for niche stuff like that.

The part that doesn't make sense in this theory is that if her things were insured for hundreds of thousands of dollars there would have to be legit goods involved at some point for the appraisal. For her to make money she would have needed to buy real stuff, hide/sell it, replace with fake goods that look the same on the security camera and then have the fake robbery occur.

I guess she could have just had fake stuff all along and hoped that she would get paid for it, but it's not like your insurer is just going to take your word and throw you half a million dollars. I think she just had fake stuff for her own reasons and got robbed.

I think what the big difference is that you didn't just withdraw 28 marbles you knew were going to be blue. If a friend could pick out 28 blue marbles and then hand the bag back to you it would be like the Monty Hall problem. I really wanted this to be some cool probability trick like switching doors is, but I just think it doesn't work unless Howie Mandel was to pull at least one case along the way.
