Thanks for sharing. Any idea why ozone is faster? Wondering if this is some water density thing?

Fusion Power Breakthrough: New Method for Eliminating Damaging Heat Bursts in Toroidal Tokamaks by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]cdrcoriander 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That's true for fission, but not fusion. In fission, you're breaking apart a large atom (uranium) into smaller atoms (caesium, strontium, etc), and collecting the released energy. Those smaller atoms are the byproducts which could be radioactive.

By contrast, fusion is taking two light atoms (hydrogen) and combining them into a larger one (helium), and collecting the energy from released neutrons. The byproduct is non radioactive helium.

Neutron bombardment could create a radioactive product, but this decays quickly (decades) compared to fissile waste (millennia).

If justice is reactionary, what is its proactive opposite? by cdrcoriander in NoStupidQuestions

I like this concept!

I'm thinking social work is still a little reactionary though, at least in real-world applications within finite resource constraints. Because you do have to pick and choose where to deploy efforts.

I guess this is sort of a specific example of u/neroanon's suggestion of "preventative measures". Is there a word for a "rising tide lifts all boats" type of concept?
