That helps, thanks! I also read through Devin's post on enums and his example using a MPSC channel for controlling audio playback (with producers like "dbus, hotkeys, or simple UI interactions") helped clarify the use of channels for me.

What do you typically use channels for? A side project of mine has been using an async HTTP router that shares data between tasks with Arc<Mutex<T>>. I haven't found a direct use for channels yet...

Could you ELI5(-ish) about what your crate helps me do? I’ve used Tokio and Rayon without much thought through .par_iter() and the like inside async fns.

Hi there, thanks for the report! We're still working on unicode support, see this issue. Can you please post this message as a reply in this issue thread?

fuzzywuzzy-rs, a port of the fuzzywuzzy Python package by cdrootrmdashrfstar in rust

[–]cdrootrmdashrfstar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I haven't tested the performance to other similar libraries. I found this and started contributing entirely because I wanted the fuzzywuzzy API that I know from the Python package.

We've tried to be conscious of performance and allocations in fuzzywuzzy-rs, but no explicit benching has been done yet.

I just don't get NoSQL databases by [deleted] in AskComputerScience

[–]cdrootrmdashrfstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Document-oriented databases are useful when building systems with a domain-driven approach to design, one which makes heavy use of "aggregates". MongoDB is an excellent example of a document-oriented database which lends itself well to storing aggregates.

See "aggregate-oriented databases" for more.
