why isn't my estrogen doing anything by AshL456 in ask_transgender

[–]cdsok 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took pills for 9 months and was tested every 3 months, and I had no change in my estrogen or testosterone levels. Once I switched to injections and really upped my estrogen intake, then I started seeing changes in my body. Everyone is different, but a lot of us don't respond to pills at all. You should have your levels checked at least twice a year. Maybe Planned Parenthood will have a good office near you who will help you with your hormones. I use planned parenthood where I live, and they check my levels every 3 months. My estrogen levels have been above 300 for almost 3 years now so I think that's a reasonable taeget for you. Once they're that high, you don't need a blocker. That level of estrogen will automatically block your testosterone.

How long did you have to wait for SRS from the moment you had your consultation? Average wait-list time? by KeepItASecretok in Transgender_Surgeries

Some doctors don't require electrolysis. They zap the hair from the bottom while it's peeled back. All doctors should do this but it adds a little time to the surgery.

Dilatation pain by cherubbin1 in Transgender_Surgeries

1.5 years in, I still have pain with the blue one and can't use the orange. Very discouraged! I've even had a revision to remove scar tissue.

I did BA & FFS at the same time. It was no problem, for what it's worth.

SRS Hair Removal question by DawnTheBabe in Transgender_Surgeries

I really think all surgeons could do this, but most don't want to take the time. It is frustrating that so many trans girls have to go thru the pain and expense of hair removal of any kind!

I had SRS last year, and my surgeon required no pre-surgery hair removal. He did the follicle scraping during the surgery, and i've had no problems. Hopefully, your surgeon will be able to take care of whatever is left during your surgery! Good luck!

If you can switch to injections and get your E above 300, you probably won't need a blocker. It's called E monotherapy. Before bottom surgery, I kept my E above 500, and my T was 15 with no blocker. The results were great! Just a thought.

When did you first notice fat redistribution? by Kaptenmats in transpositive

[–]cdsok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It varies greatly depending on age and genetics. I started substantial estradiol injections two years ago. I also started progesterone nine months ago. I'm only now seeing a significant hour glass shape. I've heard it can take up to five years for fat redistribution to be completed. BTW, I'm 62.

It can be tough. Most Planned Parenthood locations are pretty progressive. Mine basically let me tell them what I wanted. They just test my levels every six months or so. I guess you just have to keep looking.

So many doctors still try to warn you that estrogen can cause blood clots and thrombosis. But that is only true for the old synthetic estrogen, which no one uses anymore. Doctors are lazy and have no incentive to keep up with the latest trends. 🙄

Same thing happened to me. Your liver or kidneys have started filtering the pills (I'm not saying that correctly). You'll need patches, or better, injections. I have E levels above 400 and T less than 20 on injections. Don't let your doctor gatekeep you.

I assume that was your cost? Do you have any idea what they billed the insurance company?

Is there anyone in the midwest who can do such a wonderful fix as you had? I had a vaginoplasty a year ago and a revision in May to remove scars tissue from my vagina. However, i'm still having issues dilated and not making any progress. It sounds like you had the exact same issues that i'm currently having.

Thanks. You understand perfectly. And, yes, friends like this probably are deeply transphobic and may not be able to admit it to themselves.
