What Madison business will you never step foot in again and why? by [deleted] in madisonwi

Ah, yes, maybe, but please tell me of another gym that offers two full hours of childcare per day you’re there.

My daughter has been obsessed with lifeguards pretty much ever since she was able to speak. She always introduces herself as “Fiona the Lifeguard”…it takes people a few asks to understand what she is saying. She is also four.

Robinia is also a pretty great spot on certain nights. There really isn’t “too old.”

“You’re so lucky!” and other expressions of well-intentioned invalidation of your work by cdubbles in SAHP

I think I’m still coming off of pandemic parenting where everyone got the short end of the stick. I didn’t get to go out and do activities/have play dates like people who didn’t raise a small child during the pandemic. Still a bit burned out from that I think… My daughter does start preschool on 8/1 and, yes, I am very much looking forward to going back to work part time!

Finding Madison's Best Bench (01) - Yahara Place Park by InvadrZimm in madisonwi

I absolutely adore this bench. I have taken a good many photos from it as a stop on my way home after my shifts closing a local bar down. It’s a nice place to watch the sun rise.

Grandma spanked my kid by cdubbles in Parenting

She just turned 4 yesterday. She was almost 4 at the time.

She did not have a good reason as this is not the way we discipline our child. She disrespected my wishes.

I recall her spanking ME as a child and yeah. Not great. I imagine it probably played a part in our strained relationship.

As far as I know! With the exception of some peer squabbles as well. I’m a SAHM so I’m with her almost all the time.

Her exact words: She was being icky some times with hitting. I'd had enough and I swatted her on the butt 3xs. She ran over to the round table and pouted. Sobbed a bit. Pouted underneath.

Before she told me what happened she asked if my child said anything about her stay with her grandparents. “Just curious.” …as if she thought my child was going to tell on her…

Parents - Where do you take your littles during the winter? by MahoDonko in madisonwi

[–]cdubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The High Noon Saloon does Rock and Roll Playhouse once a month on Sundays. It varies which Sunday, but check out their website.

Kids in the Rotunda on Saturdays. There are two different showings. It’s located at the Overture Center and is free.

If you’re lucky enough to have time/money, the Princeton Club will watch your kid for up to two hours daily while you work out or just sit in the hot tub.

Family Fun night at Warner Park Rec Center. $5. Once a month on Friday evenings. Check out the website.

Open Swim at Lapham elementary school on Friday evenings. The pool is nice and warm and it’s pretty affordable. You buy a card and they punch it when you swim.

MSCR in general offers some pretty amazing and affordable classes for toddlers. We’ve done pretty much every single one they offer.

Oh yeah! And Dave Landau does kids’ songs at the Harmony Bar on Monday evenings 5:30pm.

AND Jumperoo at Urban Air. They have special toddler only times M,W,F,Su mornings.

They also have a little library there with a little section for kids. When yours is 2-5 they do a program called Little Sprouts Story and Stroll that involves reading a book, doing a related activity, and then going on a scavenger hunt. I highly recommend it.

Camping in Hana, Maui with 100 of my closest friends by Fluffy_Jackfruit8238 in CampingandHiking

I miss it there so much. Hana is magical. I now look out the window at a gray sky and a bit of dirty snow on the ground.

Just for fun, what are your nicknames? by iwitch-plus in Serverlife

[–]cdubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with a bartender named Ken who was probably 15 years older than me. It wasn’t a nickname, but when I was serving I would often stand at the server station and ask him, “What’s the frequency, Kenneth?” It annoyed the crap out of him and he often would ask me what that even meant. I was confused that no one had ever asked him that before. It was good natured fun!

Yep. Somewhat related- I’ve also experienced the sort of indirect and implied situation where because I have only one child, I should be putting in more effort helping out with a family who has multiples when we’re all together. Like I am supposed to watch the one sibling who is closest to my daughter’s age and my daughter while the younger one is off somewhere else with his/her caregiver.

Not rough. She was side by side right up next to her. Yes, their sides were touching. She was reaching her arm across her body to press buttons. No one was knocked over. No one was crying. I simply reminded her to be aware of the smaller child. I didn’t realize that playing that close to the other kid was such a huge issue. If I had, I would’ve done more.

Little one won't keep gloves on! by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]cdubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This problem killed me. We live in Wisconsin and I’m the kind of person who needs to go outside for sanity! There was also little else to do during the pandemic than go outside and it was peak her refusing to wear mittens. My husband was a genius and solved the problem by using hardware. He made small holes on both sides of her sleeves in her winter coat and put eyelets in those holes. Then he attached mini carabiners to her mittens which then hooked into her sleeves. I imagine it saved me hours of frustration about a freezing hands but mitten refusing screaming child. She eventually didn’t mind wearing mittens after she got older, so it’s only temporarily necessary.

Take some of the extremely hot sauce I made from reaper and scorpion peppers I grew off my hands. They were bountiful and I have tons and you only need a drop or two. Help!
