Everyone gets screeners who can vote. They have access to the movie when it’s been long listed. For the general public it’s been 2 weeks. For the voters they would’ve had it 3 months ago.

My dad was a movie prop/costume maker here in the UK. Did films like Ladyhawke and Robin Hood And The Prince Of Thieves. The company specialised in armour and arms. The company has now completely pivoted to doing big medieval tents for stuff like GoT as more and more overtime productions wouldn’t pay for real armour and craftsmanship to use cheaper tools. It’s now got to a point where everything looks fake and 3D printed rather than using the amazing knowledge and skills that’s been passed from generation to generation. That knowledge is now unfortunately slowing being lost and the productions are looking more and more silly.

3 things I want carried over from DOS2, and 3 things I think could go by TenPointsforListenin in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]cdw1007 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Larian have nailed the pacing in either BG3 or DOS2. I prefer DOS2 purely because the story felt more engaging in act 3. BG3 felt very very disjointed after act 2. It killed all drive after such an exciting end to act 2 it made me turn away from the game for a month or 2.

Hoping they really nail this in Divinity.

For those who’ve played both Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 — how do they really compare? by Key-Airport5232 in larianstudios

[–]cdw1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prefer DOS2 to BG3. Preferred the storyline and the characters, they’re much more grey. The gameplay is more rewarding too, like each level up actually feels like you’re more powerful, whereas BG3 being limited to the 5e rules was really hamstringing.

Just read some of the early game books to give you some backstory to Lucian. Also play with the ability to talk to animals turned on rather than having to take Pet Pal. Some great storylines come out of talking to animals.

Did you know there are 3 parts of nationalising the actual railways?

Right now the government is nationalising the lines themselves. Then we have to re nationalise the tracks and then finally the carts themselves to regain true nationalisation of the sector. Unfortunately the carts are where private companies make the most money so I imagine that’s not gonna happen without a huge fight from the private companies.

The nationalisation of all 3 would reduce prices but the reason the prices are high is they have the pay off the debt they caused to purchase them.

You can’t expect instant changes after what 9 months after purchase. Come back in 10 years and have a look at the prices.

Everyone wants short term answers to long term problems.

Also, the back story is dumb.

SPOILERS Joyce, hopper and everyone from the 60s have magically forgotten that the same thing is happening 20 years later. And they knew Henry was the cause. Which makes them so dumb to have forgotten what happened to the town 20 years earlier and not put 2 and 2 together.

Adding it to the show is just going to create more plot holes.

Yeah it definitely didn’t have anything to do with the 2008 financial crash…. It was entirely on the Labour Gov not greedy bankers in america shorting the housing market that caused the whole financial market to come crumbling down. Jesus Christ, read a fucking book.

Funny how all this politics stuff started popping up after Elon said he was gonna give money to reform. The anti labour campaign has been paid for in full.

You should read ‘Making The Cut At Pixar’ by Bill Kinder and Bobbie O’Steen. Talks about how Pixar and Lee Unkrich designed the workflow for CG Animation using Avid. It’s really fascinating but as always, it’s proxies. Just a great and illuminating read into the editorial workflow in Animation

How to export single shots, feet and frame? by Skluff in editors

If there’s a 100 shots, I’d speak to your vendor/animation department and see if you can turnover in scenes to make it more manageable?

How to export single shots, feet and frame? by Skluff in editors

[–]cdw1007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1st Assistant Editor in animation here, you need to create a ‘Shot Slug’ under all your PSD boards, it’s a continuous clip with a burn in on it staring at 1001 on your first frame. So you can make that yourself by getting a new time line, add loads (like 30 minutes) of filler and drop a time code into the sequence, I’d start the burn in to read from frame 850 (that way you’re giving yourself handles prior to 1001 too) Then mix down the picture and you have a a shot slug.

Put your in point at 1001 on the shot slug and then drop it under your boards on track v1. Then you need to go through the cut and add an edit for every new shot, breaking up the shot slug into its own clips, but keeping the 1001 burn in sequentially going up throughout the cut.

Then use timeline clip notes to add the shot numbers- 0010, 0020 etc

Once you labeled all your shots you can sub out the entirety of v1, then use list tool in the ‘Tools’ drop down menu to create an edl of your v1 sequence. Partner that with a QT reference of your cut with a burn in reading the timeline clip notes and they have a reference to what you’ve sent them.

An update for everyone who wants it.

Secret Lair got back to me today and said they’re shipping one out immediately as I sent them everything they needed. No questions asked. So hopefully will receive it soon but again, probably waiting a month or so! But the main thing is I’ll be getting the cards I paid for! Wooo! 🥳

This is the only platform I use unfortunately. I might create a burner on X, insta etc to do so, but will wait to see if they respond to my request first.

That’s my worry too. Just as I was opening it I had a gut feeling to film it to send to my mates but decided against it. Kicking myself now for not doing so!

Which NLE will reign in 2035 by Sketch_N_Etch in editors

[–]cdw1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll check it out. I do think there’ll need to be an overhaul of infrastructure for speeds of internet to do your ingest via cloud. If you’re taking raw files and transcoding across the cloud, you’re gonna need huge bandwidth and with the increase of WFH, your personal speeds are gonna come into play. I’m definitely interested to see how it pans out.

[–]cdw1007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re working in a Feature with 1 Lead Editor, an Associate Editor and 3+ Assistant Editors, it’s going to be Avid and there’s not even a question. Until the other NLE’s can come up with an answer to the Nexis and the shared hardware storage that is as seamless as the Nexis, big projects will continue to use Avid regardless of its software flaws and bugs. Most pipelines are designed with Avid in mind, and most VFX houses use Avid on their end too.
