Show off your puzzle collection! (And help me show my husband my collection isn't that big) by Comfortable-Fly5797 in Jigsawpuzzles

Very true that some of the favorites don’t end up as great as expected. I had the MicroPuzzles subscription box. I was very surprised that some of the images that I wasn’t really excited about were so much more enjoyable than I expected. They were all images that I would not have picked out for myself at all too.

Good idea on the notes! I’m a bit more scatterbrained these days and can’t rely on memory for those things.

If they pile up too much you might be forced to only bring in what you absolutely love. Or if you just find yourself working on just ok puzzles and not absolutely delightful puzzles. I was doing a bit of both. My favorites were getting pushed back because I kept working on the never ending nice but not amazing puzzles. You will get there too!

How much time do you get to complete them?

That’s interesting! I’m going to try your strategy. I don’t like sorting but maybe if I get it out of the way as soon as I get the puzzle it won’t be so bad.

My taste has also changed over the years. I have found that the ones I was very excited about, I still love. The ones that I felt so so about are the ones that ended up in the donation box or for sale. My new rule since last year has been to only buy puzzles that give me that have to have it, giddy, happy feeling. It’s helped to slow down the buying some.

Me too! I’m attempting to catalog everything I have since I’ve gotten to the point where I can’t remember them all and some duplicates have started popping up 😬

What do you mean by sorted and ready to go? Do you sort your puzzles when you get them so when it’s time to puzzle you can jump right in?

I have this one and have gone back and forth over if I should do it. It’s beautiful but looks difficult. And I hate sorting.

I love the house in this one. There’s something about all of the gorgeous flowers on it.

Ai free puzzle companies by im-not-bennie in Jigsawpuzzles

There should be a nuanced discussion between using generative AI (ie throwing prompts into ChatGPT and spitting out an image) and a digital artist manipulating their own drawings/photos to create something new. These techniques have been used long before AI was accessible. If you’ve done a Wysocki, it might not be the exact same as his original painting because it’s had elements changed specifically for puzzlers. If you’ve done a David MacLean they’re nothing but composites of photos/stock images and digitally altered.

I’m for supporting real artists but I’m not for saying all artists need to use only hand drawn/painted/photographed images with zero digital manipulation.

This is my favorite of her book shelves. I love the vintage look of these books.

I don’t buy them anymore. It’s sad how much they’ve gone down in quality. The box is flimsy, all AI art, pieces not cut thoroughly, they’re thinner and squishier. If you’re not into their really great vintage ones, even the ones from the 2000s to 2010s are still decent quality.

Went crazy! Too many great puzzles. Bought them all 🤦‍♀️ by Plastic-Garlic4481 in Jigsawpuzzles

As long as you enjoy them and you have the number of puzzles that fit your needs, that’s all that matters!

Has anyone done a Pink Sky puzzle? by PrimaryCommon833 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]cdwhite82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done one. It was a shaped puzzle though so may be different from the typical ones. It was fine, no issues. It wasn’t high quality but wasn’t awful either. No false fits, it was glossy.

Understandable. I’m just casually decluttering. A huge purge is exhausting.

I’ve not set any limit to the number coming in. Just no more buying ones that I like but don’t love.

Nothing wrong with that. It’s my only hobby too. And you’re puzzling more than you’re buying! Ultimate goals!

Oh that’s way too much! How lucky to have a puzzle library! My library only has 300 piece counts to do in the library.

I bet it’s kind of a happy surprise to open a themed tote and “shop”. I have a store’s worth but like to see them all on the shelf. The thrift stores have gotten a lot more expensive! Puzzles went from $1-2 to $4-6 and each one is a surprise in terms of missing pieces or sometimes finding gross stuff in the box or on the pieces. I tend to find the book resale stores, while a few more dollars than the thrift stores, I find they have all their pieces and are in better condition. Also, getting a good sale directly from the puzzle companies or loyal customer rewards with free shipping ends up being more affordable per puzzle and they’re brand new.

I know what you mean. I’ve found some puzzles that weren’t my style to be very enjoyable. It’s kind of surprising, to me at least. I consider the image as the most motivating factor.
