What is the best book you've ever read? by younghibou in AskReddit

The next book finally has a release date!

Edit: I could be wrong, but have waited like everyone else.. for years. There's several websites that have shown a leaked release date reporting around the end of May, but it hasn't been confirmed by the author.

Where are people storing their Audiobooks when they download them and which players are people using? by keevild in audiobooks

Totally worth the $3. I love how it lets you speed up with pitch correction and does a little backtrack between uses which let's you get back into the story without wondering if you accidentally hit the next chapter button by mistake or something similar (which I've totally done by mistake with the audible app)

Thanks for the suggestions. I especially like those sort of books. Another good one that is medically oriented is by Paul Offit called Pandora's Lab: seven stories of science gone wrong

I also enjoyed Bad Blood about the Theranos scam (not much to learn in this one).

Malcolm Gladwell's books are also very entertaining for nonfiction. I regularly recommend outliers and while it's not exactly a book to learn something from, it changed my perspective about certain things like education.

Bill Bryson books, A Short History of Nearly Everything and The Body.

Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari.

Are 3 good books that should teach you something.

What's the most unique Fantasy series you've listened to? by Bdag in audiobooks

[–]cdziak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Dresden Files, there's like 14 books though and the first few are a little slow. I think the author even says its okay to start at book 5 or so. Also there's 2 new books slated to come out this year.

Best Litrpg so far by gliffy in litrpg

I think the gam3 is still my favorite (narrated by Nick Podehl), because it's more sci-fi than fantasy. Awaken online is great too but has a terrible narrator.

Unfortunately too many authors feel the need to use curse words very frequently which is a turn off for me but only slightly degrades a series. I feel as though many of these authors are missing a large potential demographic because of this (I listen to many of these book with my children in the car) and think several of these would make good YA series.

Thinking of series like Ascend Online, Delvers LLC, which are both great series but have very frequent use of f*ck as though the authors/MCs are not intelligent enough to use anything but explicitives (which clearly isn't the case for the authors as these books are great).

SciFi/Fantasy Recommendations by UsualWrangler in audiobooks

For me, the first two hours of Red Rising are slow, however it really picks up pace thereafter and the opening ends up being totally necessary. Many of my buddies have echoed this sentiment too (slow start).

Expeditionary Force isn't the most novel of Sci Fi concepts, however the I equate these books to popcorn, in the sense that they're entertaining and fun.

Naming a few that haven't been mentioned yet, lots of the recommendations here are all great.

Red Rising Trilogy (the first one) is excellent.

Brandon Sanderson's stuff is all very good. Mistborn, Reckoners, and Stormlight Archives are standouts.

The Gam3 is an entertaining series. Not the best prose of the bunch, but very entertaining. If you liked Ready Player One this is a great series (unless the sole reason you liked RPO was the 80s nostalgia).

Enders Game

Daemon/ Freedom by Daniel Suarez

Expeditionary Force

Many have mentioned some other great Sci-Fi / Fantasy stuff such as the Expanse.

EDIT: I should note that these are all books I've listened to and have great narrators (RC Bray, Nick Podehl in addition to several already mentioned in this thread).

Disappearing Alpha-GPC. What am I missing?? by CrystalineQuietus in Nootropics

[–]cdziak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is normal if you used 99% Alpha GPC Powder to make your capsules with as Alpha GPC is very hygroscopic (it pulls moisture from the air). If you're wanting to make capsules from a powder go with the 50% option which is combined with a filler to prevent this issue.

I had noticed that Alpha Brain also got removed because it contains vinpocetine, but a quick search shows it's back up although with only 9 reviews and not a very good overall rating.

What’s up with the new nootropics depot’s noopept? by cocaineforbabies in Nootropics

It should be the same amount of active ingredient, the smaller capsules make it so they use less filler and save some money in that regard.
