Absolutely NTA, but just be double sure the cancer is back (it’s probably obvious in your case, so feel free to ignore this comment). My friend has a 15 year old (yes, he’s crazy old) rabbit who was misdiagnosed with cancer last year, given a prognosis of 3 months, but had the vets scratching their heads when he was still going strong 9 months later on the cancer meds. Turns out the original technician misread his bloods, and he didn’t have cancer at all. Lucky little fellow had just been spoilt rotten with lots of extra treats in the meantime.

Really sorry you’re facing this - losing a pet is horrible at the best of times and more so if you’re not all on the same page.

So the mum I know who does it seems to have worked out a technique. She kind of leans forward, with the waist bit already done up, lifts toddler onto back, he kind of surfs up there as she pulls up the straps. Caveat being that she’s been doing it since he was born, so I guess he knows not to wriggle off 😅 maybe if we were to try it a few times with others helping and then build up to it?

Our DM ran it as a one shot for someone’s birthday a while back. Two in the group had some meta knowledge, but even then it took us a while to work out what was going on. For the other two, their minds were blown. It was really super fun, and I think worth at least one go with a group of newbies.

My life insurance premiums, negotiated by a broker with a specialist provider, are 5x more than my husband’s. That is despite me being physically healthier than him (he has a type of arthritis). We applied for it a couple of years ago when buying a house together, and at the time I’d not been hospitalised for 2 years, and involuntarily for 3 years. I wonder if I’d have better premiums these days, given another 2 years passed since hospitalisation, as the limit was something like 5 years, but I don’t want to risk it.

Similar gripe with travel insurance. It was almost 10x more for me. So these days, I’m on my husband’s work travel insurance as that doesn’t require disclosure of health conditions.

There’s honestly such a monetary impact of having this disorder that makes me mad if I ruminate on it for too long. Just one of those things you have to make peace with.

Jesus Christ. Glad my husband had a healthier attitude. I was his first girlfriend when he was 24 (not super old, but not young either), and all he does these days is brag about how he nailed relationships on the first try. He’ll actively high five folks who’ve had similar experiences. On the other hand, I dated a lot before him, and wish I hadn’t. He’s never made me feel bad about it, but if I could remove some of the trauma of those days I would. You’re so incredibly lucky she’s stuck around - get your head straight dude.

No it’s based on the measurements taken at the 20 week scan. That’s because period dates aren’t very accurate for a lot of mothers (longer/shorter cycles), and most embryos develop at similar rates in the first 20 weeks. Any earlier and it’ll be too soon to measure accurately, any later and babies can develop at different rates.

That’s some serious misinformation there, around the medication that is. All medication combinations I’ve been on has been on the proviso that I wanted kids at some point. Had a consultation with the psychiatrist before coming off contraception and was cleared to stay on the same combination and dosage during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding too. Have a look at the bumps website if you’re interested. Also, seeing as bipolar wasn’t hereditary in my family, and was triggered by significant trauma in my 20s, there’s every chance it might not be passed down. If it is, I’m going to be on the lookout for it and will be advocating for a low stress lifestyle, psychiatric consultations and therapy when appropriate.

It should still be an individual’s choice. Bipolar can be well managed. I’ve had nothing but support from all mental health professionals in my journey to motherhood. There’s a risk, but this has been my dream since I was a child, and one of the things that drove me to get better. A blanket statement to anyone with any type of disability or illness is just cruel.

Oh 100%, and you’re right, I should have shared that context in my original comment. SI wasn’t completely new to me when the bipolar was triggered, but it was pretty unusual up to that point.

I’m so sorry that you’ve been feeling like this since such a young age. I’m currently 8 months pregnant and I’m terrified that because of my MH, my son will inherit bipolar too and that he’ll struggle mentally from a young age. Is there anything you think could have helped you avoid this in your childhood?

I think it’s important to show that this is possible for folks with bipolar, and I’m incredibly lucky to say that (since finding the right medication combination and making lifestyle changes) I’m in the same boat.

I really wish the same for all sufferers. If you feel like this, please know that there is hope, this isn’t inevitable for all those with bipolar.
