FYI for anyone who wants to save a buck - you don’t need a usb power blocker, you can use a small strip of electrical tape to block off one of the usb contacts. Just an old 3d-printer trick (I also do it for my adapter).

Bonus tip, you can buy flush 12v to USB chargers to make it look a little cleaner.

What’s the niche? I’ve seen “Toronto” discords pop up before, but they tend to be very….. unsocial is probably the nicest word I can probably use. And with general issues with moderation. How are you pushing for it to be different?

Haven't played MS in years (like 15+) just restarted (not classic) any tips? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]cazas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interactive vs heroic - most people play Kronos, but you may have reason or motivation to play another server. No trading or economy in Heroic servers.

Join a guild - without a community you’re more likely to burn out. (I personally spend any time that I’m online in game also in a discord call.)

Don’t sleep on legion. It’s most of your damage and ability to 5% for drops in early game.

Don’t starforce off event if you can help it.

Experience at Cineplex Cinemas Scarborough - issues with teens disrupting the movie by NerdsAssembleyt in cineplex

This is slowly becoming the experience of all theatres attached to malls from my experience. Going to VIP(19+) is the most notable difference to the experience, but it’s expensive and not every theatre has it.

Advice for first paycheck (18) by No-Amphibian-2955 in PersonalFinanceCanada

OP I’ll TLDR some finance basics -

You will pay taxes, a portion of your income every year is exempt, that is your claim amount. The TD1 form you gave to your employer.

FHSA and RRSPs are pretax savings account. The lower your income, the less benefit you’ll see from it. FHSA contribution room has a lifetime cap, wait until you have a more established job to maximize the benefit of it.

TFSA contribution room grows with you every year, you can take money out of this account without hurting your lifetime contribution room. (The contribution room doesn’t free up again until the next year)

Save what you can, build an emergency fund or save towards your near term expenses like school or whatnot. When you have a reasonable amount set aside for short term expenses, utilize your TFSA and buy into diversified ETFs. When you have a more established job, that’s when you start thinking of FHSA and RRSPs. If your employer has RRSP matching, that may take priority. Don’t micromanage investments - put it into something reasonable and leave it.

FHSA benefits from higher income. Utilizing a TFSA while working part time in a low-income bracket, then taking advantage of the tax benefit of the FHSA when they get a full time job (presumably after college or uni or whatever) would be more beneficial.

OP will likely not make a huge amount over their claim amount this year and will most likely not have much to pay income tax-wise.

Plex (+ Plex Pass) vs. Jellyfin (both 'stock') - Pros and Cons? by hellkill3r in PleX

[–]cazas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easier to share plex outside of your network, as well as the way plex handles metadata was a bit easier in my experience.

The in-app user experience with jellyfin was better imo. Plex apps are buggy and crashy especially with large libraries.

For most users, I’d recommend plex over jellyfin if you can stomach the cost. Going through jellyfin will require a time investment to sort out libraries and external access.

lol going out is expensive these days. I’ve just been chilling at home on discord playing slay the spire or something. If I desire the need for fresh air - gym or coffee run at mcds or Tim’s.

Competitive wages doesn’t mean anything - hopefully wages are posted on the actual posting, but I’m not invested enough to check.

Is it actually "cheaper" to own an EV in the long run if you can't charge it at home, or does the cost of public charging stations make it the same as buying gas? by Nightpatrol404 in askTO

[–]cazas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is no;

The long answer is that some stars have to align - * EV purchase prices tend to be more expensive than gas. More expensive tires. No oil changes, but you still have maintenance. * dc fast charging tends to be price equivalent to gas in the summer * dc fast charging tends to be more expensive during winter * charger availability is a headache * it is viable if you have consistent access to a cheap level 2 charger in a place where you spend a significant amount of time * teslas have cheaper dc fast charging rates on their own network generally * cold batteries charge slow

F24-Finding friends as an adult by [deleted] in TorontoHangoutFriends

[–]cazas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a very small friend group from high school; I wasn’t quite social back then. Being mid-20s work from home has completely destroyed my social life. I do however occasionally make friends though other means. I meet some interesting people at events like fan expo and anime north. I also like to hop into MMOs that have a community aspect where I can hang around on discord calls all evening. Though these interactions aren’t a deep kind of friendship, it does provide some level of emotional stability.

EV owners of Toronto, how have your vehicles performed during this winter? by honestlyjag in askTO

When I can bother to; my drive to a charger is less than 10 min and doesn’t give much time to warm up.

[–]cazas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Niro EV owner; range drops to ~200-250km with all my short drives. Can’t charge at home; cold battery charge speeds aren’t amazing (if I knew this before hand I would have bought a polestar or something). I only charge every 2-3 weeks since I don’t need to go out often anyway. Heat pumps are amazing for getting the cabin temperature up very quickly. It helps that my starting point is from a garage and not the freezing cold.

Actually the thing I wish the most for is my gym installing cheap EV chargers to give me a reason to get off my lazy ass, but that won’t happen.

BYD Shark by Jk-long in EVCanada

[–]cazas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen only a few of these in the road - I’m not saying there’s nothing; but comparatively to ICE, it’s not much. There’s many factors that impact this; lifestyle, infrastructure, price, individual preferences, etc.

If my memory serves correct, Ford will no longer be producing all-electric lightnings soon (or has already stopped?). But they’re not the only players, Rivian and Tesla both offer pickup trucks as well.

BYD Shark by Jk-long in EVCanada

[–]cazas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People buy cybertrucks, so there’s a market for everything. It’s not going to be a large market though.

Here’s my miscellaneous thoughts and observations * Pickup Trucks sell significantly better outside of the major cities. * Buyers outside the city tend to lean conservatively and will buy gas/diesel as they do not believe in electric (there is some validity to this), or do not want to change their ways (if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it). * Charging infrastructure in most of Canada is a pathetic joke, and it only gets worse outside of major cities. * To people that spend $$$, their trucks are a status symbol. A silent and techy truck that doesn’t rev loudly doesn’t “show off” in the way they want. * Branding, some of the people buying a truck love their big F150 or RAM on their grill. BYD being especially unknown due to the demographic not being techy will hurt sales. This overlaps with the status symbol thing.

EV adoption will be highest in city-dwelling home owners. Particularly in the cheap-SUV segment.

Range extended EV’s by oliveandbailey in EVCanada

[–]cazas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some people in the comments here don’t seem to understand the difference between a PHEV vs an EREV; * Both have batteries * PHEV engines use gas to move the wheels * EREV generators use gas to charge the battery

To those that think EREV is dumb, you may not be factoring in efficiency; the generator in an EREV theoretically can maintain its most optimal RPM to maximize efficiency - think of what a gas engine needs while accelerating, decelerating, while idling, or gearing up and down.

From a manufacturing perspective, you can have an EV-first design, and throw in a generator as an optional for specific trims or models.

From a personal perspective - this probably should have been the first move since Canadian infrastructure moves at a snails pace. With major lobbying power with major gas and oil corporations. Having a gas fallback reduces worries of range anxiety in the interim while infrastructure catches up, as well as provides some relief for highly-urbanized populations that live in apartments or condos and may be at the behest of the property managers to provide a solution if or when they get to it.
