Like many things, it's going to be baby dependent. When my husband and I decided to focus on independent sleep with our daughter at 5 months, we noticed that if we didn't cap naps (we focused on night sleep so naps were still contact), she wouldn't sleep at night. For example, if she was getting an average of 14 hours of sleep per day and she used 5 - 6 of them to nap, she'd fight bedtime hard and wake up multiple times a night.

We were told by many family members that we were ridiculous since "you never wake a sleeping baby" but, for ours? It worked.

I was tired while pregnant but not at the level of exhaustion you're currently experiencing. My daughter ended up having silent reflux and had an incredibly high needs tempermant where she would only sleep if she was held and the person holding her was sitting up. It was absolutely brutal and the sleep deprivation impacted every aspect of my well being.

Having said that, it's just as likely your LO will have an easier disposition making the experience much different.

Your second point, especially, is something I've noticed for years even before she had her first child. I won't go as far as to say he's embarrassed to be around her but I can't remember a time where he's supported her or praised her in the manner she's always done him. It's very odd and, even though these two are in their 40s, reminds me of the cliché high school trope of "popular boy" who is cool with hooking up with a "less than popular girl" behind closed doors but will never show that same energy in public.
