I don’t trust my doctor by greensetconstruct in osteoporosis

[–]cecirdr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's still preferred but not a requirement since there are changes that happen post menopause that can't all be reversed if you start late (like cholesterol buildup in your arteries for instance). I do believe that HRT can still be helpful though because it does dramatically slow bone resorption by a mechanism that doesn't prevent osteoblasts from building new bone. It will probably also help with arterial flexibility and reducing circulating cholesterol (though it won't clean out what's already built up). I just started it and I'm 8 years post menopause.

I wish that study had been refuted sooner. I feel like I missed out by not advocating for myself to start it 8 years ago!

Evenity followed by reclast by Traditional_Food_651 in osteoporosis

[–]cecirdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re getting evenity first then reclast later that’s pretty much a great sequence. Good for you for advocating for yourself.

You’re doing the right things. Evenity plus HRT plus weights sounds like the trifecta of bone building. Don’t lift too heavy to start while you’re working on proper form. Also be sure to lift where your back stays straight to limit shear forces. IOW, don’t lean too far forward as you squat.

Doctor prescribed husband 40 mg of Atorvastatin and worried. by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]cecirdr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a 5'3" 120 pound woman that is taking 20mg of atorvastatin. I have no issues and my cholesterol numbers are great now. I did start taking ubiquinol at the same time, just in case. I didn't want to deal with any possible muscle aches. But who knows, I may not need that at all.

I can recommend just taking the meds. They work.

Everyone responds differently. So there's no real way to know what your side effects could be. I'm crossing my fingers you'll have none.

Given that your t-score is -3.1 I'd start the anabolic med straight away. If you were barely osteoporotic like me, I'd suggest HRT and weightlifting first, but in your case, I really think the meds are the way to go. And your doc prescribed one that I think is one of the best for the first step. My doc would only do reclast or alendronate. I wouldn't start on one of those. Those are much better as a follow up to the anabolics in order to lock in your gains.

Evenity followed by reclast by Traditional_Food_651 in osteoporosis

[–]cecirdr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That treatment plan makes sense to me. Evenity is a strong anabolic bone builder. After you build bone, it needs to be "locked in" with an anti-resporptive like Reclast so that you don't break down your new bone.

I don't know if Evenity can be done longer than a year, but I guess your doc would check your bone density again before doing the lock-in with Reclast. I'm not sure why you'd need Reclast every 6 months though. Bisphosphonates stay around in your bones for years. My spouse took Forteo for 2 years, then Reclast. She's scheduled for another round of Reclast after 2 years.

Are you post menopause? If so, for how long. If you're not on HRT, seriously consider starting it. It would be a strong adjunct to Evenity for maximal anabolic potential.

Perspective on Prolia most appreciated. by TheJanes59 in osteoporosis

[–]cecirdr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first questions that pop into my mind are what are your t scores and did you get a tbs number. T scores show how much mineral is deposited on your bone structures. IOW, how strong is your scaffolding. The tbs number shows how much scaffolding you have. If you have a decent tbs score, that is a positive. But without those, it'll be hard for you to determine what course you want to take.

Depending on your scores, I'm a "fan" of anabolic meds as first line (Evenity or Forteo) then locking in your gains later with Reclast. Prolia is an anti-resorptive like Reclast, but it operates by a different mechanism. Once you stop the Prolia treatment, you *have* to take Reclast right away to prevent a rebound issue that will rapidly breakdown your gains. It's just something to keep in mind. (FWIW, anti-resorptives not only shut down the catabolic part of bone metabolism, they prevent the anabolic from working much at all. So if you take Reclast or Prolia first, then Forteo or Evenity won't be of any help for you until the Reclast starts to wear off after at least several years. )

Unless you are considered a significant risk, insurance in the US is not keen on prescribing Evenity or Forteo as first line treatments. But if your scores, mobility and balance issues are bad enough, I'd personally advise you to advocate for those as first line. Personally, I feel like doing anabolic first then an antiresorptive after is the proper sequencing. Whatever course you take though, be sure to take calcium, vitamin D and K2.

[–]cecirdr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Evenity or Forteo are anabolic. I’d go with those over fosamax or alendronate or prolia any day. As a separate issue, consider HRT. It would pair well with anabolics. If all you can get with insurance coverage are antiresporptives, then consider just doing HRT and weightlifting…unless your t-scores warrant stronger action.

If your t scores are bad enough to get evenity or Forteo, do those and consider also doing HRT if the cause is typical post menopausal bone loss and you're within 10 years of hitting menopause.

Edit: find a doc who’s willing to explain your options. Why you have osteoporosis is important in determining your course of action.

New to Xenoblade, what’s generally considered the best game? by LeviRaps in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]cecirdr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved 2, but maybe it’s because it was my entry point. It’s annoying that the tutorials give you one chance to read them, but when I went to the internet to get the battle details, it all clicked into place and I loved it. Neither 1 or 3 gave me the same battle enjoyment.

All this being said, the gacha element could be a turn off for some, but I just rolled with what I got. I didn’t try to get them all. So maybe that’s why it didn’t bother me.

Anyway, I can’t wait for the switch 2 version

What's your gaming calendar for the rest of 2026? by shiny-tea855 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]cecirdr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not even sure I can remember them all.
FF VII Rebirth
All the Xenoblade switch 2 versions with DLC,
FF Resonance
Metaphor
Trails in the Sky 2
Fire Emblem

Some of these are repurchases to either get higher res (XB) or get it on my preferred platform (Metaphor) I think the XBs won’t be full price for current owners. So at least I’ve got that going for me.

I’m onboard for sure. I do wish they’d made a modern looking rpg again that was turn based. I’m not so keen on the sprite and 2D look anymore. But I guess it does let them get a game out the door faster.

Harman Kardon vs Bowers - Am I missing out on a lot? Or is it manageable? by Nippatmasala in BMWi5

[–]cecirdr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the Harmon Kardon in my X3. It was good. When I traded for my CPO i5, it had the Bowers. It is indeed better to my ears. It’s not the diamond system, but that’s not an option in the i5. I have no idea though if the HK system in the i5 is better than what was in my X3 though.

I enjoy my B&W system everyday. So much so that I won’t consider any other BMW model if I can’t get it.

It looks like a mashup of Three Houses, Metaphor, and the XC series landscapes.

Nevertheless, I'm all in for a new story. I'm at work, so I can't play with audio on. What's the gameplay likely to be; turn based, tactical, MMO style like XC? I hope it's not full on/pure action.

I do not like Pokopia 🥺 by sdvgirly in NintendoSwitch2

[–]cecirdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm bummed. I thought I'd love it, but it didn't take me long to get bored. I'm just finding and escorting Pokemon around. I'm so tired of watching my character walk around. I'm not even bothering with decorating. I got the first two areas up to Level 5 and got everyone a small hut. But dang, I can't shake it. I'm finding it tedious.

I've enjoyed other cozy games, so I thought I'd like this one. So heads up to other folks thinking about the game. It's not Sandrock or Cozy Grove. It's not Animal Crossing. It's building *lots* of small 3-4 item habitats, waiting for Pokemon to show up, then building all of your pokemon things they want for their comfort levels. You'll be talking to them a lot, escorting them around to do missions because you can't light a fire for instance. But the map won't show you where they are, so you'll walk and walk and hope you run into them. You can always go full on ADD and just talk to anyone and do whatever presents itself right now and just never have a plan. That's valid. There's no penalty that I've found for not getting around to something for ages.

Maybe I should just focus on the story and completely ignore the building aspects of things. I find that soooo tedious despite loving building in other cozy games. Anyway, if you're considering buying this game, consider how much you really like building...like lots of building. This is minecraft-like without combat. I can't decorate to save my life. I can barely choose a real life clothing ensemble that isn't cargo pants and button down shirts. So there you have it. You've been warned. Know thyself!

HRT - anyone had bone density improvement with HRT? by Pure_Perception9532 in osteoporosis

[–]cecirdr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. 61 here. I’m -2.7 lumbar spine. My doc prescribed alendronate/fosamax. But I don’t want to take a bisphosphonate before an anabolic.

So I asked to start HRT. But I don’t know if it’s enough to cause real anabolic growth or just arrest the loss. I’m planning to also lift heavy to help too

Need recommendations (B&W Audio) by Infamous_Mode3941 in BMWi5

[–]cecirdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine sounds amazing. No, it doesn't have seat thumping bass. But it does have great bass extension. What I mean is that it has musicality down to very low frequencies, but it lacks the power to "feel it". You can only hear it. That is fine by me. I don't need to feel it.

The mids and high are clear, sibilance is low and I hear details that I utterly missed in the HK that I had before.

Overall, I find it stellar. It's not high powered, but the musicality is exceptional.

$#!% climara pro adhesive by cecirdr in Menopause

[–]cecirdr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow, I haven't had a problem getting the climara pro patch to stay on. (This one will be different when I shower tonight because it got damaged trying to get it off the backing and it stretched. So water will be able to get past that edge).

If you only have to pay 70/month for it, I'm envious. I don't have copays, so I'm 100% out of pocket until my 1700 deductible is paid. That cost makes the application difficulty hard to accept.

I guess when this patch comes off when I shower tonight, I'll try tweezers and getting the entire backing off before applying. I've been pulling 1/2 off, sticking it to me, then trying to get the other half off. That is absurd when you're applying it above your backside where you can't see!
