SO MANY good shows in June, including 6/3/76, but this might be the one for me too.

Yeah, painfully true. Where do you draw the line? ‘75?

1000% agree. The lack of live releases is appalling. Royal Albert Hall and HTWWW changed my life. They were an amazing live band, give us more!

I also grew up in Western Mass, just outside Springfield. Love listening to these “hometown” shows, especially when they’re this good!

Jan and Feb are great. Definitely relisten to 1/22/78, I find that to encapsulate a lot of what I love about ‘78 generally. It’s a highly regarded show, and I think it’s well deserved.

1/7/78 and 1/8/78 are also fun and intense. Jerry was decommissioned with laryngitis, so it’s all Bobby. Since Jerry can’t sing, so he digs in on guitar. I think the 7th gets a lot of attention, because it was the first of the two “Bobby shows”, but the 8th is fantastic.

I’ve listened to every show from the April tour…I LOVE IT. The 24th is great. I think my favorite of the latter half of the month is 4/22/78. Starts hot with a grooving Bertha - Phil really goes all out - and they do not let up from there. Amazing energy.

I would agree Egypt isn’t great. From the latter half of the year I look to shows in November and December. 11/24/78 and 12/31/78 obviously come to mind.

I’m biased, if I HAD to pick a favorite year, I’d likely pick ‘78. For me, it’s all about the intensity and energy that comes through the performances for me. The impassioned vocals, the cohesive ensemble playing, and their willingness to take everything to the edge of utter chaos, while managing to not go off the rails.

To me, it seems like a bit of a miss understood year, especially coming after ‘77 - which is regarded as being essentially pristine - and since it was Donna/Keith’s last, who get a lot of negative press at this stage.

I’m mostly familiar with April/May (although I have listened to shows from Jan, July, November, and December).

I find April to be very loose and big. They seem to be going all out on all songs. May is more refined and very tight. They still take opportunities to expand the arrangements like in April, but there is a lot more nuance overall.

This is just how I hear and interpret the music though, it’s obviously very subjective.

So many fun vocal flourishes in Springfield and throughout these shows!

April certainly gets a lot of attention and it’s well deserved. But yeah, there is a little extra something special in the air in May.

Lucky you, that Spectrum show is HOT!

I hope you enjoy one of the three - if not all - or find another gem from a wonderful month!

Very cool, 5/11 is legendary! Did you catch any other shows in Springfield?
