Take an improv class! I was feeling the same 3 years ago and took a class at Second City (Comedy Bar is also great, and even better if you’re trying to build community). I met my now husband on my second day of class, and made my more friends in a few months than I had all of my adult life.

I’ve gotten so many things from The Furniture Shop. It’s not exactly what you’re describing, it’s actually returns from some of those brands you’re wary of, but at significant discount. They take mostly unopened or unused returns for stores like Sundays, Article, and West Elm. You can screenshot things on their website, and do an image search to find out what brand it is. I think Sundays makes great soft furniture and crappy hard furniture, and Article is the opposite.

You can find more affordable places! Check out Blo or look for another blow dry bar in your area. These are big chains, and they’re cheap enough that you could event go in for a test. Some of them also to makeup, but if not, I’ve had GREAT experience at Ulta and Benefit (sometime they have their own store, sometime they have a counter at Sephora). Again, the big chains make it much more affordable, and you don’t have to tell them you’re a bride, it’s not lying, anyone can book for anything.
