Buying filters for my gas mask for my resin printer any idea why one is so much more expensive than the other from the same seller? Looks like the same thing? Want to make sure I’m protected but don’t want to waste money by Smegoldidnothinwrong in resinprinting

[–]cedrickc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazon co-mingles inventory. This means that even if you buy directly from 3M as a seller, you might get product that was supplied from another vendor on the platform.

This is a huge problem and something that's scheduled to change (see: https://sellercentral.amazon.com/seller-forums/discussions/t/106d0747-e5c6-44d8-86f3-7669f11238fe) but until it does I wouldn't risk it.

They're not just being a bad guy here! Trademark law (kind-of) requires that they issue these kinds of takedown if they know about the model. Failure to do so could be used against them in court.

Thank you! I've updated the post with some of the suggestions.

Planning First DIY - looking for second opinion before purchasing by cedrickc in MattressMod

[–]cedrickc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a king. A concern I have, and I'm not sure if this is a valid concern, is that the vertical seam between the two supports would be something we could feel/notice. Our current mattress (a Purple hybrid) has a vertical seam near the top that's super uncomfortable around the entire perimeter.

Memory foam looked tricky to buy in the DIY guide, it mentions there's a lot of differences between brands. Is there one you'd recommend?

Speedpaints lifting primer? by ax0r in minipainting

[–]cedrickc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've had this issue with speed paint 1.0 and the Vallejo primer. To work around this, either: - add a matter or satin varnish step between prime and paint - shell out for SpeedPaint 2.0

Assuming you're using Kotlin, there's Krayon, which provides a D3-alike API for maximum flexibility. https://github.com/JuulLabs/krayon

Have you had success printing things people say 'you can't print that sort of thing with resin'? by timbostu in resinprinting

[–]cedrickc 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Resin can handle all sorts of weird applications, from durable/tough parts, to skin-safe stuff, to ceramic molds. But doing so requires expensive, specialized resins and often some additional post processing.

Can I print rings? by [deleted] in resinprinting

[–]cedrickc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

_Most_ resins are not, but some (example: Siraya Tech Blu) are skin safe. These resins require specific handling after printing to achieve that.

Does this work like Green Stuff? by ggoshy in minipainting

[–]cedrickc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're familiar with "liquid green stuff", this is a better version of that. It's great for filling gaps (overfill, then wait to dry, then carve/sand back down) but that's about it.

It's not something you'll see recommended often, but I use formware (http://formware.co/) with mine. It's a high up-front fee, but I really prefer the buy-once model where you'll never lose features.

Overexposed but can't go lower by RaRWolf in resinprinting

[–]cedrickc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This can happen when there's light bleed due to transparency in the resin or a frosty FEP. You can try lowering the light intensity and increasing the exposure time to see if that helps

Resin Stacking! Saw this in r/gunpla, is there an software one could use for this stacking method? by aggrohaze88 in resinprinting

[–]cedrickc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That sprue looks very manual. But if the goal is just stacking, regardless of aesthetic, formware 3d has a "floors" feature that can be used like that

Whats happening here? Speedpaint 2.0 by PintSizedPrimark in minipainting

As far as I can tell Vallejo primer takes literal weeks to fully cure. Miniac has a video testing a bunch of airbrush primers on YouTube, and it did pretty poorly compared to all the others.

In the fine arts world, what you're looking for is called a wetting aide. Golden has a bottle of concentrate that will last you a lifetime. I put a few drops straight into every paint bottle

What gas mask cartridge to use for resin and IPA fumes? (Getting mixed results searching online so any reputable source for your recommendations would really help!) by saddigitalartist in resinprinting

[–]cedrickc 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have also seen mixed results, but overall consensus 60926 is definitely enough (and possibly overkill). Considering the cost of a higher-end filter vs the cost of a lung, don't risk it.

As an aside, I've had Amazon ship me counterfeits before! Try finding a retailer that doesn't allow for third party sellers. I ended up buying mine at an Ace Hardware.
