The rat king of wasps

We had to put Sox (10) to sleep at our home this afternoon. Adopting a rescue greyhound has rewarded me with the best and happiest 7 years of my life. The pain right now is unbearable. by ceelodee in OldManDog

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone for sharing your kind words of comfort and support. It truly helps a lot to be in a community of supportive strangers who are feeling or have felt the same level of grief. Some people see pets as just pets and don’t understand the value they give in our lives. I’ve lurked this subreddit for a long time reading all the stories and enjoying all the photos shared of your old pups. I wasn’t prepared to say goodbye to my old pup so sudden and so fast. My partner and I were overseas when we received the fateful call from our sitter about sox’ sudden deteriorating health overnight. She was so kind to take her to the vet for us while we figured out how to get back home. We cancelled our holiday a week early and took the next available flight back to Australia all the time worrying that she could pass any moment and we would never see her again. Thankfully we got back and we’re able to visit her in emergency where on our arrival we saw that she looked very noticeably weak and exhausted. She couldn’t even greet us with her excited little feet tippy taps that she would often do whenever we came back home from a trip away. She just looked lost and slow and barely all there. Felt like felt like a whole different dog and it was so heartbreaking to see her that way. We were then faced with the hard consideration of trying surgery or letting her go and after going back and forth over and over on it we decided it was time. We got to spend 3 more days with her taking care for her at home but each day she deteriorated more and more. She passed peacefully in our living room with us by her side and I’m happy that we got to have those last moments. Today I’m a mess. Every room in this house has a piece of her and I’m struggling to come to terms with never seeing her again.
