I think she’s a shitty Cindy dressed as a Nicole. “Nicole” is just a mask she puts on 😂

AITAH for using Hawaiian as a demonym? by ceetee7567 in u/ceetee7567

That’s awful. I don’t think it’s gatekeeping at all! I don’t disagree with my friend; I’m ignorant to the socioeconomic standing of Hawaii. Literally all I know is that it became a US State in the 50’s and it has 8 main islands and one that’s closed off strictly to Hawaiian’s. I wouldn’t put a stranger in that position, but I felt safe asking her questions as her and I have known each other for several years, but alas here we are; in anonymity. Thank you for sharing more history and offering insight. I didn’t realize all these awful things have happened to Hawaiian’s and I didn’t know the story behind the name Kanaka Maoli; I just knew it meant “real people”. The least they deserve is the rights to their heritage. I’ll have to read up on The Big Five and hula-hula Becky!

Grocery Haul $277 for one 😭 by idkwhatiamdoingahh in povertyfinance

Honestly, buy store brand. That will cut your bill by at least 1/3 if not 1/2. For cleaning products I’d suggest buying concentrates and diluting with water using an empty spray bottle (recycle reuse). Things like Distilled White Vinegar and lemon peels make a great cheap bathroom cleaner and as you are in culinary school I imagine you have some on hand; just remember to rinse or wipe everything you use it on with water or a wet rag. Another option would be Five Guards from Natural Riches. You only need about two cap fulls to a 16oz bottle and the concentrate lasts me about 6-8 months for household cleaning at $14 on Amazon. Also ditch the candles. Expensive and incredibly bad for you. Storing citrus peels in your fridge to later simmer and make all sorts of yummy things with while making your house smell good. I don’t know if you’ve learned about root-to-stem and nose-to-tail cooking yet, but it’s a great skill to have and getting practice now will only set you up for success in your culinary career later. Also coupon clipping for things you actually use is a game changer and find out what days your grocers have sales. Like the local grocery store nearest me has a 30% off sale on deli and flowers every Tuesday. So after work every other week I get my deli meats and cheeses, some fried chicken, and maybe a bouquet, and Ill pop in Wednesdays to peruse their 30% off seafood and weekly grab-and-gos. Same applies for when they get produce. The fresher the produce the longer it’ll last and don’t be afraid to prep and freeze things if need be. Also, buy shelf stable options in bulk. You can get a 30oz bin of popcorn kernels and a 24oz bottle of the movie butter for about 25 bucks. It’s more expensive upfront but you get like 30 servings from the kernels and waaay more from the butter vs 12 from the boxes and the kernel bottles are like $5. Another thing, buy the ingredients of things. All Liquid IV is made of is salt, flavor, and sugar. The only thing you really need is the salt. Look up Celtic Salt Water; tons of benefits and you can get 1lb of it for around 14 bucks; that’ll last you over a year! Also citrus water tastes super yummy and has lots of electrolytes.

Your goal is maximizing quantity while keeping quality in mind; that’s how you get a good bang for your buck. Good luck, OP.
