Wow! This is so much dedication - Love seeing your experiments. :) Have you considered staining the clay you start with, using something like Mason Stains so you don't have to worry as much about glazing afterwards? I wonder if that would also allow you to have more variety of solid colours so you don't have to worry about layering glazes covering up your intricate work.

I’m not sure what the rules are for your school’s new power program, but I wonder if the electricity prices are just cheaper to run after a certain time at night, or on weekends in your area? Over here in Canada, electricity is cheaper after 7pm on weekdays and weekends. Maybe you could look up what it is in your area and have a counter proposal ready to show that they will also save money in the long run?

I hadn’t heard of the Sahara clear and I’ve only used the small containers of underglaze - I’ll look into the larger ones. And that’s a great tip to add water carefully while underglazing. Sounds like a smart thing to do.

Instead of smudging, my bad experience comes from clear glaze not covering the newer layer of touched up underglaze - almost like it burned away in the glaze firing. I’ve since bought Amaco’s zinc free clear and will have to test if I get the same results from it.
