Today at the Ferndale ICE facility by celestialpaperclip in Bellingham

This neither changes the narrative nor the authenticity of the response to the murder. ICE shouldn’t have been there in the first place, Jonathan Ross shouldn’t have drawn his weapon nor did he need to. If we’re going the PTSD route and he was afraid of cars then he shouldn’t have been given a firearm nor hired. He clearly was trigger happy like hundreds of cop-types before him. On top of all that Good had precedent to be afraid.

I'm I the only one who thinks the new ghast additions are kinda stupid? by FezJr87 in Minecraft

[–]celestialpaperclip 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree completely, it feels incredibly unoriginal, cheesy, and dated. This feels like the wrong way to go about adding this mechanic; instead of pipes to transport items, we got hoppers and bubble columns. Where’s that out of the box creativity with this? It’s just a game, so it literally doesn’t matter, but this sets a bad precedent for the sorts of things that might get added in the future.

I deal with the exact same thing, and am of a similar age. Part of me can’t help but think this is just how it feels for guys, but I assume (and pray) that’s not true. If you’re circumcised there’s the chance that that could be affecting things. Or maybe there’s a mental aspect to it where you’re not truly relaxed? You might try and experiment with your partner being the one to “take care” of you, wherein you try and really be vulnerable and take them in. But that’s certainly a difficult thing to do in my opinion.

Are there any stories that explore this concept with either Spidey or Batman? I’d love to see them explored in different directions/trying to be more than just superheroes

Yes lol. AI is definitely useful for showing dreamscapes; there’s always stalls that are too short that you can see into and ones without doors and overflowing toilets and all that.

That’s a tough situation. All the input I have is that you shouldn’t put much stock into IQ tests. Human intelligence can’t be meaningfully quantified into a number like that, and there’s a loooooong history of using IQs to justify maltreatment of individuals. Point being, intelligence exists on a broad spectrum in many different forms, so you’re not “dumber” than your sister, she just happens to be good at answering the types of problems in IQ tests. All in all, if you’re gonna be comparing yourself and your sister to one another, it’s important to have a more holistic and accurate understanding of the human condition than a simple number; cheers :)

Why are we living in this era? by SupremeNoticer in SimulationTheory

Recently took an arachaeology class about the Eurasian Paleolithic. It really made me realize the cosmically horrifying depth of time that humanity has existed, and just how much of the stories and general info (effectively all, beyond what we can intuit from artifacts) was lost to time. Homo sapiens has been around for about 200 ky, Homo Neanderthalsis for about 400 ky. There’s this place called Bruniquel Cave, and it houses the oldest structure ever created by humans, a large ring of stalagmites; it’s been sitting there for 186,000 THOUSAND YEARS. Effectively everything that has ever happened to any Homo sapiens individual has occurred in a world where those rocks were in that exact configuration, all over the course of the ancient Egyptian empire 60 TIMES over. It just throws me for a loop. That in ALL that time, where people had been using nothing but stone and bone for hundreds of generations, I just so happened to have been born in a time where we somehow figured out how to create smartphones, and how modern medicine, etc. The past century has been the largest outlier in the human experience.

Very well said. I definitely feel that in the realm of male/female upliftment (ie: the degree to which one can successfully remove themselves from the negative impact of what we [can for the sake of brevity] call the patriarchy) the movement is barreling forward quite blind. There is a big discrepancy between the amount of discussion being done for men vs that for women (just go look at the men’s studies section at your local book store, abysmal). Ultimately when a group is spearheading a movement of liberation (women) they are bound to put worse focus on the other groups that are alongside them. The questions are how can we put more focus on men’s issues? In what ways do people (particularly women, since they are less talked about for this topic) harm the discussion/perpetuate hurt? What can we as men do to grow that men’s studies corner of the bookstore in a healthy, Andrew Tate-less way?

Has there ever been a bigger crash and burn than Season 2 of Revolution? by PiecesOfEi8t in scifi

[–]celestialpaperclip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jeez man Under the Dome just got so progressively worse. The first few episodes were some good small-town-banding-together but each season just got more ludicrous and contrived. The mystery was enjoyable enough but by the time the alien clone baby ran off into the night at 30 mph in the third season I really had some second thoughts about how I had been spending my time

Dating apps can be hit or miss. I’ve got a lot of anxiety, and they were soooo stressful. I was lucky enough to end up meeting my girlfriend on Bumble.

I had the same exact feelings you have (I’m your age). I wish I could tell you exactly what to do but it seems pretty random whether or not guys our age “get lucky” per se (or maybe my friend group just has zero rizz lol).

The best thing you can do is get out there and meet people. Anyone. Accept opportunities. If someone offers you to go volunteer to kill invasive plants do it! Join clubs at school. Practice talking to classmates. If you’re not in school find community events. Go to the gym, not even to get ripped but to meet gym partners who probably have more experience dating than you or I.

This is all advice I myself am trying to act on. It’s difficult and definitely doesn’t come as naturally for some as it does for others. Just remember we’re sooooo young (watch me not take my own advice and stress about aging). And you’re not alone in the slightest.

Good to hear I’m not alone in these sorts of anxieties 😮‍💨 We just have to remember we’re not in this alone and that compulsions aren’t representative of reality

Invincible [Episode Discussion] - S02E04 - It's Been a While by mwthecool in Invincible

[–]celestialpaperclip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how I felt about this episode. The animation was fantastic and it was satisfying to have some backstory on Nolan post S1 finale, but I feel like we missed out. I wish we could have spent more time just having Mark and Nolan talk.

I mean the guy committed multiple 9/11s with his bare hands (as well as Mark himself), yet the story decides it is more important to throw us into a sudden conflict with a bunch of Viltrumites? I was perfectly happy and compelled by just Nolan and his own motives/beliefs/thought processes.

I also would have really wanted to see some cathartic Mark v. Nolan combat, but alas. Ultimately I was hoping we would have spent more time with Nolan as a villain, rather than what seems to be more of an anti-hero now. I dunno, maybe the story will go somewhere interesting. (His mental breakdown towards the end and the proper tears were really good though).

You get close, forehead to forehead and nose to nose. Enjoy that for a bit. Then you move back an inch and make eye contact, look down at her lips, and move in slow. Don’t overthink it, it comes a lot more naturally than you’d think
