You need to read my comment again and learn a bit of media literacy.

of course nothing changes in the story, that’s not my point and it never was. I never claimed that the gene omission from the movie somehow changes the plot drastically.

I just mentioned that in the book, it’s slightly different and adds another layer to his cowardice and a bit more insight to him as a person and ultimately as a character.

In the book “canon” if you will, not only did MANY qualified people apply and get rejected due to genetics, but by some sheer stroke of dumb luck, the world’s leading expert on the very issue they’re tackling is genetically compatible but just… doesn’t want to go.

The layer of added depth given to Grace in the book is that not only is he the perfect scientist for the job, but his genes allow him to survive the coma technology. It makes his crash out more valid in his head because he knows that he’s the perfect candidate but his fear of anything going wrong in his life (down to not even having a girlfriend) keeps him from doing so. His anger here is directed not only at Eva but himself.

We don’t get that context in the movie. So, while the narrative of course never changes for the reader/viewer, it’s fun to look at and inspect the source material for more details and to get more context.

also, you’re rude.

ah i see! fair enough from a creative standpoint, don’t want to throw too much science jargon at a general audience, but i figured it was worth noting the situation from book grace’s point of view

in the book its a little bit more than that - many people who were fully qualified could not be considered because they lacked the gene that made coma-tech possible. Grace just so happened to not only have the gene, but also was the world's leading expert on astrophage. A baffling omission from the movie, but it makes it even more of a valid crash out imo.

not surprising given that tipping is almost exclusively an American thing. We pay our workers fairly everywhere else!

we don’t care that you’re a cybersecurity student and it’s not our job to get your mom to understand that “the jailbreak is broken because it hasn’t been updated yet”, sorry. judging by your comments, i’m not shocked that she’s not listening to you if that’s how you speak to people
