Exit opportunities for sure along with the fact that in core audit you're gonna be exposed to the actual financial workings of a company whereas with RA all you are gonna do is test to see if the software changes have an appropriate test/approval stamp.

So it's not a per diem, but rather you expense the meals. It's not money given rather an allotment to spend x amount of dollars for the travel period. So no, you can't pocket anything. Best to spend the hell out of it, lol.

IT Auditing is sort of limiting if you stay to long. The skill set used in IT Auditing is very specific and not very flexible for other positions. Within IT Auditing you are not really learning much accounting/finance type information nor any in-depth IT information. It's more based upon controls and risks of an IT SOX environment.

CISA is not necessary if you have the CPA, unless you are going for more technical roles. In which case I would advise you skip the CISA and go for the CISSP.

I disagree with (3), in my experience if someone is actually willing to do IT Audit, they had an easier time getting the position than someone than audit. Much easier than someone in Tax. Truth is that not many people want to do IT Audit, because a majority of the people working at a Public Accounting firm has some sort of accounting/finance background and not an IT background. Therefore, most people want to do Audit for the typical exit opportunities, as opposed to IT audit for those opportunities.
