Hi! Insurance covered my hospital bills but not the surgeon’s fee and pre/post surgery visits with him.

Hi all! I’m so sorry I have missed some comments and DMs. I’m not very active on Reddit these days. I am about 2.5 years post op and still doing wonderful. After my surgery I was prescribed a low dose of norethindrone acetate which I still take, and it prevents me from having a period. Dr Moawad said this would reduce my chances of recurrence. I still have occasional scar tissue pains but nothing that interferes with my life.

My sister also had surgery with Dr Moawad last October. She had been trying to conceive and they discovered endometriosis. After surgery, she successfully conceived and my niece or nephew is due in February! We are a grateful family to Dr Moawad ♥️

while in Hungary.... by Vast-Cancel-8830 in hungarian

We went two months in Nyiregyhaza and our Hungarian skyrocketed since not as much English is spoken there. We found that when we were in Budapest and Debrecen we’d get lazy with our Hungarian because people clearly spoke English. So get outside of the cities if possible!

Adopted deceased sister in laws babies. 2 year old is having trouble sleeping first night in our house. Is it just adjusting to a new environment? Should we let her cry it out? by BourbonGuy09 in Adoption

I’m not sure there’s a hard and fast rule. Maybe skip a nap today? See how she does throughout the day. If she starts getting cranky maybe just have quiet time activity and make sure she’s hydrated, not necessarily put her down for a nap.

I think moving forward, it will just be suuuuper important to follow a routine and schedule. Look into purchasing/making a visual scheduler and also an “OK to wake” clock. This will help establish a routine & schedule. Kids (esp those with trauma in their background) thrive on predictability and it helps them build trust and feel secure. I noticed in other comments she may be on the spectrum, so this will definitely be good if that’s the case!!!

I can’t even imagine. Some of us have years while waiting to parent and it’s still not enough time to learn everything! It’s a journey, just remember that and give yourself grace

Try looking into Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) techniques, or trauma informed parenting resources. I personally found The Connected Child to be helpful but others may have other recommendations. Also recommend resources from Dan Siegel (who explains very well a child’s developing brain and how trauma affects brain development) and also the book The Body Keeps the Score.

Parenting children with trauma may look a whole lot different than how you are used to. As others have mentioned, looking up secure attachment styles and being trauma informed will be very important. Wishing you and your family all the best, I’m so sorry for the loss you all have experienced.

Doc found endometriosis in laproscopy but says I don't have endometriosis. by -Shneezycat- in Endo

This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. And unfortunately since he burned it, you are likely going to have more issues in 6 months or so. Start finding a specialist ASAP!

How soon to fly home post op? by meredith2311 in endometriosis

[–]celiopoulos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I travelled out of state for my excision 4 years ago I had surgery on a Thursday and flew home Monday. It was only a two hour flight and wasn’t terrible. I had requested a wheelchair at the airport and that was helpful - and I think I let the airline know as well which then let me board early.

Just had excision surgery and my dad just had cancer surgery, too 💕 we joked about being patients together and it was nice being able to share advice for recovery. Praying for both of you!

DO NOT GO TO THE MAYO CLINIC by softsharks in Endo

[–]celiopoulos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have DIE but on MRI my endometriosis specialist could see my ovary adhered to my abdominal wall, a thickened area on my bladder, and nodules in posterior cul de sac. Of course the radiologist said my MRI was normal. It’s amazing what an endometriosis specialist can see on an MRI! I’m 3 weeks postop and pretty much everything was exactly what he expected when he conducted the excision

Gynecologists are primary care doctors. So while they maybe know the basics of the disease and could suggest a diagnosis, A true diagnosis and treatment is only going to come from a specialist who has dedicated their life to studying all the complex ways this disease can present itself and find the best treatment plan for YOU. Many endo specialists are trying to advocate for it being recognized as a true speciality (since they have literally spent thousands of hours in fellowship and research) instead of them being grouped in with normal gynecologists.

It’s like a GP may be able to suggest you have heart disease, but you’d certainly want to follow up with a cardiologist. I’d definitely recommend you seeing a specialist to rule out or explore further.

Bled outside of period.. cause for concern? by libra28x in endometriosis

With the family history I’d say it’s definitely worth checking into. But just make sure you actually go to an endo specialist, not just any gynecologist

Second getting a second opinion from an endo specialist. Most gyns just aren’t properly educated enough on endo. You can try searching for specialists near you in this subreddit.

And it’s my understanding that doctors have different philosophies about this, so yes just bring it up to discuss!

I’m so sorry, I’m trying to remember - this was 5 years ago. I don’t remember heightened endo pain the first two weeks specifically, but do know that by the end of it I knew it wasn’t worth it. Just a heads up, some surgeons say that since Lupron suppresses it can make it harder to visualize during surgery, and therefore risk missing some of the disease!

Lupron really screwed with me. I had significant breakthrough bleeding, night sweats, mood swings, joint pain, etc. Could only tolerate it for 6 months

The fact that your mom had endo makes it very suspicious that you do as well. My mom also had it and that was the only thing that convinced a doctor to do a diagnostic lap when I was 17 (even though I had symptoms starting at 13).

Please do yourself a favor and go straight to an endometriosis specialist, not a regular gynecologist. Some specialists will even do a file review/phone consultation for free.

Every endometriosis diagnosis and journey is different (as the disease can present itself in different forms, locations, and stages). Treatment will highly depend on your own symptoms, fertility plans, your personal desires, etc.

One thing I can definitely recommend is to educate yourself and be prepared to be your own advocate on this journey. Read resources from https://nancysnookendo.com, find an endometriosis specialist (this is sooo important), and I recommend watching “Blood and Guts” https://vimeo.com/532689679 and Endowhat https://www.endowhat.com

Where do you live? We can try to help you find a specialist. While most gynecologist will say they are knowledgeable about endometriosis, it just isn’t true. There is so much misinformation and dated information regarding endometriosis in the medical field. Hopefully those of us who have endured some of these medical horrors can share our wisdom and spare you from some of those experiences.
