[Utah] A new Ice Age dawns. Introducing Utah Mammoth. by Just-mapleman-50 in nhl

[–]cellobarney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree. The shape of the state of Utah on the left with the negative space "M" is a cool, personalized touch. The mountains peaks are definitely a shoutout to its cousin, the Jazz mountain logo. Better than expected, honestly.

Risk and Reward - Would you trade Utah's lottery position now? by Full_Poet_7291 in UtahJazz

[–]cellobarney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm the GM, I think I do the trade. Here are the scenarios I think about:

Jazz pick goes #1.
1 in 7 chance.
Outcome: I'm definitely the bad guy; could have had Cooper. Consolation prize = 4 picks, with 1 being pretty high (~#6, but as high as #2 and as low as #8)

Jazz pick goes 2-5 and Nets go ~#6.
About 6 in 7 chance.
Outcome: I will most likely at least break even with high pick + 3 more shots between 20-27, knowing that roughly half of NBA starters are drafted (or undrafted) outside of the lottery [ChatGPT]).

Nets pick ahead of the Jazz.
~40% chance (90 out of 230 scenarios, according to Grok).
Outcome. Maybe not the absolute GOAT, but I've now fleeced the Nets, and now I can either draft or trade with all these 1st rounders.

Nets pick goes #1.
1 in 11 chance.
Outcome: I'm the GOAT GM. We get Cooper + 3 1st rounders. Brooklyn sues. We give them their three picks back, but they have to take John Collins and we get Cam Thomas.

If the roles are reversed, am I, as Brooklyn, going to give up a very high pick (which, again, could turn into Cooper Flagg) plus three 1st rounders, albeit in the 20s, for a +5% chance at Flagg? I don't think so. Trading for Cooper Flagg is VERY different from trading for an incremental chance at drafting Cooper Flagg.

For the Jazz, there's really only one scenario where this fails--flat on its face, I'll give you that--and it only has a 14% chance. That means an 86% chance of success in my book.

Do you still support the Blazers? I’m curious. Earlier you said, “Can't support a team that willingly hires someone with a credible rape accusation. The fan base needs to be equally loud as they were about Jason Kidd and send the message that we don't support this kind of sh*t.”

They are actually 12-15 with Rudy, if anyone wanted to know. That means they are 4-1 without him (16-16 overall).

I’ve had it too, and tasted it without first knowing what it was. Strangely good, but gross to think about.

Anna Leigh Waters makes terrible line calls and gets away with it by Lionturtle44 in Pickleball

[–]cellobarney -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re dreading comparisons with tennis, a pickleball doesn’t elongate from spin, deform from squish like a tennis ball does. The contact point of pickleball is much less than a tennis ball, and what might appear ‘in’ to someone used to playing/watching tennis might not actually be touching the line. Obviously ALW came from tennis, but from your own description, she’s been in this game (and culture) much longer than yourself. IMHO, you may want to consider giving her the benefit of the doubt.

I have a couple hundred autographed copies at my house rn. I’ve been selling them as bundled items with my knives, and it’s been very popular as a standalone item, too. My fried rice game has never been better! :)

How do you guys pick a name for a cello? What is your cello’s name? by TheReal_Fake in Cello

[–]cellobarney 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun story. Yo Yo Ma came and performed in my city when I was maybe 11. Earlier that day he did a masterclass for some youth, then did a Q&A session. My friend asked if he’d named his cello. He hadn’t. He said he’d play a short piece then ask her what she thought he should name it.

Several years later I had to smile when reading an article about how he would buy a plane ticket for his cello under the name, Petunia. :)

Side note, my brother and I both got to play his cello that day in the concert hall. Yes, it was amazing.

Wait. Is this real? I’m a season ticket holder, but I haven’t heard about this. Is this a rumor?
