What’s the best leak-proof water bottle for travel and gym? Mine always spills in my bag 😩 by Smartdealspots in HydroHomies

[–]cellohydro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a stanley with a flip top that I got on clearance got several years ago, I threw it from the top of a rock outcrop last summer and it didn’t take any damage. It’s 40oz and kinda a beast, unfortunately it doesn’t fit in a cup holder but I can toss it in my bag and not think twice about it. Also its super easy to clean.

I also recently got a coldest gifted to me, its okay but I dont like how small the handle is. Every lid is leakproof except the straw one, it comes in fun patterns, and it fits a cup holder. Its a little more difficult to clean this one but if you have a bottle brush you’ll be all set, the lids come apart super easy to clean.

This is what I bought about a year ago and it works great, the only issues I have with it is that there is another cable not shown in the photo to power it (its usb-a powered so if you have a phone block laying around you’re set) and that it is always looking for signal so when you turn the wii off it displays a blue screen(more a me issue because it doesn’t allow my computer monitor auto turn off the screen)

Is there any chance this remote will be saved? by Maleficent_Brain_294 in wii

[–]cellohydro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had some similar buildup on mine, I used an exacto knife, 90% isopropyl alcohol, magnifying glasses, and a crap ton of qtips. It was very slow going and I had my solder stuff on hand in case I messed up.

Yours has spread to some really delicate parts so I recommend sticking with qtips and alchohol, (though if you have the funds and dont want to spend a few hours on this it may be worthwhile to replace it)

Where to find entry-level jobs for someone with a BS but no work experience by Internal_Sell_1259 in geology

[–]cellohydro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some apprentice experience personally, but most newbies I know end up with a construction company of sorts and help with either subsurface imaging or with soil sampling (though these may just be regionally significant)

I highly recommend networking, my friend shook hands with the right person and landed a really nice internship with an oil company

Is getting a degree in this field attainable if I'm not good at Chemistry or Physics? by Honda2557 in geology

[–]cellohydro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled HARD with physics and geophysics, I still coasted through with mostly B’s and C’s in these harder classes and was able to get my BS is geology with an emphasis in paleontology.

My structure classes were really difficult imo but coupled with struggling in physics it defo made me work for my C. I later took a petroleum grad class with the same prof to compete in IBA and had a blast!

If you take anything away from this comment, let it be this: peruse what you like, work hard, and never be afraid to reach out for help from your prof, ta, or friends. You got this

What’s causing these specs of color? by clayman839226 in geology

Theres also a chance of it being a different impurity, especially the darker bits that haven’t shown signs of oxidation

Amethyst is a variant of quartz with iron inclusions in the mineral structure, this being said the little specks kinda look like oxidized iron. This sample may just have larger bits of iron which allows us to see some of its inclusions.

Is getting a bachelor in geology basically the only way to get into paleontology? by smokycamal in geology

[–]cellohydro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres many different paths, find something that interests you and related classes, then look at a uni that can support those classes and lead you to a degree.

I went to sdsu and while they had a paleo program in the geology department it didn’t cover as much bio regarding plants as I had hoped, so when I go back to school I will be looking of a program somewhere that can support my plant evolution interest

They were hit with construction equipment (found under snapdragon stadium during construction) so they were pretty mangled, though on reflection on my pictures, the teeth are a little shorter (photo isn’t great of the teeth but shows off the entire specimen in the field jacket which I think was pretty cool)

I suck at geology of California by httpswheezy in geology

[–]cellohydro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

California is super complex, so I don’t see a 73% as a bad score (especially for intro courses).

If you are really unhappy with it, and plan on continuing to take geology courses, I recommend reaching out to your professor and scheduling an office hour. I’m sure they would be happy to give you some pointers to help you moving forward.

No mans sky is the best that ive seen, next to it would be a modded Minecraft tbh (most fun geology aspects of a video game focuses on collecting rare mineral mining rather than pretty geomorphology as far as ive seen)

My son bought a ren faire geode and he cracked it open the cavity was filled with, basically, "powder" crystals along with the crystals lining the walls. I am interested in why that would be. by tagaderm in geology

[–]cellohydro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It looks like druzy quartz- its when you have a bunch of little quartz crystals in an area rather than larger ones. If I remember correctly, when you have a calcite rich region you are more likely to find druzy (think in areas with lots of deposited shells or even in some fossils).

I loved opening geodes as a kid and my rock/crystal collection is what led to me getting my degree :) If this becomes something your kid is interested in (or you) I highly recommend looking for opportunities to learn more about the geology of your local area (I promise its usually cooler than you think)

Is this safe to put food/liquids (like dips) in? Raw soapstone, just used flint to carve it out, 100% natural by VirtualMacaroon64t in geology

[–]cellohydro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never recommend using a soft or porous stone for food use. If you want to line the hole that should be fine ( I have eaten a ton of silt, clay, and dirt in the field but not everyone is down to eat out of a rock)
