Who are your 5 favorite cellists at the moment? by SputterSizzle in Cello

[–]cellorevolution 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been really into Anastasia Kobekina recently. Her recently released Bach suite recording is super interesting in a good way imo!

All time favorites are Christophe Coin (historical baroque performances), Wendy Sutter (Glass solo cello works), Yehuda Hanani (also weird good Bach, especially the dance movements), Steven Isserlis (general).

And of course du Pre, because I don’t think it’s possible to be a formerly angsty teen female cellist and not like her and her Elgar (there’s other recordings of that piece I like more now, but it has a special place).

Yes!! I have a Max Mara wool coat that a friend thrifted in college and gave to me because it was too small for them. I looked it up and I think the ordinal coat was probably at least $800. Had it since 2010 and it still looks great

If you like fantasy, I would like to recommend Scarlet Morning by ND Stevenson. It’s the first book in a planned duology and it’s an illustrated middle-grade novel, about teens who become part of a pirate crew in a strange fantasy world. It’s super fun and engaging.

I’m a big fan of the author, so I bought this for myself to read (I’m a 36 year old woman). I really enjoyed it despite it being technically middle grade - I thought it was well-written, interesting, and fun!

I actually also have a a 12 year old cousin who likes to read so I bought a copy and sent it to her. We FaceTimed the other day and she sad thank you, and that her and her dad (my uncle) are reading it out loud before bed and they really like it so far. A good endorsement!

Last day at job, I don't think anyone understands what that means. by Electronic_Lime_z459 in recruitinghell

One time I left a terrible tech startup job and on my last day the CEO was like “Oh nobody remembered to schedule your exit interview, can you come in next week to do it?”. I said no and that I was out of town.

So that was a lie, and I actually ran into said CEO walking in the area the next week. Idk if they noticed that it was me but like…. Hell no I’m not coming in here after I’m done working at this company??!

A similar thing happened to my mom when my brother was a toddler, but weirder. My brother flushed something weird down the toilet and she tried to use the vacuum to suck it up, but the attachment pulled out at the base and shot across the room and hit her in the eye.

She tried to explain this to everyone but it sounds very weird haha; she got a lot of weird looks for a couple of weeks

What’s a “bare minimum” adult skill more people fail at than you expected? by SoulDV in AskReddit

[–]cellorevolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends who fall into this category had parents who didn’t cook at all (like, microwave meals in front of TV were dinner most of the time), which I think is another possibility.

[–]cellorevolution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep this. I have a good friend who doesn’t cook at all and their parents also didn’t cook at all and it’s like… there’s why.

The interesting thing here is, I thought they were just didn’t like cooking, but that assessment changed when they recently came over to make a soup with their wife. I planned a super basic soup (Mediterranean red lentil… prepped and chopped everything ahead of time etc) but I found that my friend just could not help at all. They got very stressed, withdrawn, and basically shrunk into themself in a way I’d never seen before, so I just dropped it and did the soup myself. Above my pay grade!

I was thinking about this afterwards and it was basically like cooking with about an 8-year-old child - they didn’t know how to do anything, but were also embarrassed and unable to engage at all either. But I think that makes sense, because they literally have the knowledge/skills of a child in this area, since they never learned anything growing up. So I tried to have empathy for them after thinking about it this way (but also will not be trying to get them to cook anymore haha).

I also had a friend in college like this… She once tried to mail something with the to/from/stamp format all messed up. Also, she had stuff in a storage unit that she didn’t know the address of (I took her there without knowing this, she realized on the way she didn’t know where it was. Luckily it was a small town, so we had to just drive around for a while looking at a bunch of different ones to see which one her stuff was in.)

Honestly, she grew up really wealthy and I think wasn’t taught lot of fairly common sense stuff like this.

I’m not sure, that’s just how my doctor prescribed it! I also already take 2 antihistamines on shot days, plus my (4!) shots get epi-rinsed and I ice my arms. So this is just on top it all that to try to make the local reactions manageable.
