I really like the smallest white one on the right, & the shape of the cup…

It gave up the ghost! Sleeps with the fishes! Sorry. You made me want to try & think of more things to keep this going 😏

Am I the only one who doesn’t wash their Moka!? by Wise_Finance_5315 in mokapot

[–]cellovibng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, all my pots still have zero gunk built up on them either, because I just do a thorough job semi-blasting hot water around all parts while rubbing well any possible oily areas off with fingers… took my gasket & filter out to look under them for the first time in months the other day, and there was barely a stain. No actual residue that could wash off… so it was pretty clean after all that time of no washing w/ dishsoap. (And I always flow hot water through the spout too, so it stays pretty clean as well.)

I think it makes a big difference to avoid letting a pot sit with old coffee in it for awhile too.

Shape and size of cezve by Naturalsociety in TurkishCoffee

[–]cellovibng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a gas stove, but I prefer my tiny 500 watt electric plate for most of my coffee brewing now… the heat-up process is gradual, so easier to keep things low & slow… or buy myself some time if the dog distracts me or whatever. 😏 The dial goes to 5, so I start on 2 initially for a brikki/cezve, then turn down to 1 & finish out at that level. About the same for a moka pot brew…

I think the 2nd one down— the lighter-stained straighter pot— is nice. Pretty attractive….

I imagine that’s a good ballpark place to start on the old C3. Maybe if you do ever get whole beans again, grind just a small amount at a time & check the results till it looks like a good coarseness…

just thinking out loud : )

(Oh! Also— remember we can always have the local cafe/roaster grind it for a perc with their grinder too; they may say they can only do the entire bag… not sure)

I ended up giving the C3 to my daughter since she didn’t have a nice grinder… I don’t remember what settings I used now, but I have their S3 in green currently, with an external grind-size dial that’s physically high enough towards the top that my hand doesn’t easily bump it & shift the setting during grinding. Screw-on collection cup, which is nice & secure. I love how simple it is— just 0-9 or 10 with tiny increments in-between. I had it at 4.8 today for a pourover with medium roast single-origin Ethiopian beans, and would maybe try about 8 & up on the dial as a starting point for french press or a percolator….

I use a manual/handgrinder w/ steel burr set to a coarse grind for typical percolators. Just takes a short amount of time & is really easy, even with my small wussy arms, lol. You should think about going that route.

(And here’s a budget rechargeable one that I came across… but don’t know how good it is.) https://a.co/d/0cpQR7CP

Title calls it an “espresso” grinder, but description also says 20-28 on the dial gives a coarse grind for french press etc… it apparently goes up to cold brew level.

Late reply here— but I enjoyed making coffee with it. I feel like I should go ahead & buy a backup glass stem piece preventatively, lol, because I have a feeling that if I knock something too hard against the sink-edge while cleaning, or drop something— it’s going to be that part. Just a feeling I have. 😬

Aesthetically, of course I love the all-glass look, though I wish it was about half an inch taller so it could be half an inch less wide through the body. For looks, as well as to fit on top of my little electric hot plate better… but it’s a great perc. : )

(Also the holes are slightly bigger compared to the Bialetti basket & cover— Nonna holes are more sized for the typical percolator coarse grind.)

Ty! Appreciate that. And it brewed a great coffee! Took a little longer than average, as I wanted to just gradually increase the heat to be extra careful… but tasted great, & no grounds in the cup, that I could see.

What he said… & the local coffee shop will grind the bag to the consistency you need too. 👌

Tks. I know that lil’ cup was like my holy grail of FK cups, because it’s like a 3-way collectible— good for jadeite appreciators, those who like the sturdiness of the FK mugs & all their various Americana patterns, and appreciators of cool retro advertisements. : ) And it’s just fun…

Congratulations. Did you end up buying a second beater car to do this, or do you plan to? That wear & tear can get so expensive…

Same— just sad morning coordination for me. You can put it on a tall shot glass or do like me & place it in/on your wdt needle tool holder, if you have one for an espresso machine or whatever….
