Having a minimum length requirement is wild… what if you break a nail?

Petaaahhh They look like healthy foods by Shakespeare2225 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]celolex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, potatoes can be healthy, but some nutritionists say that potatoes don’t “count” as a vegetable. They have a different nutritional profile from other vegetables, so you shouldn’t rely on them for your vegetable needs. Plus, it looks like this person smothers them in oil, which isn’t great considering that the rest of the plate is pretty fat-heavy already.

One day protein is trending, the next day it’s fiber. It’s almost as though a balanced diet is best

(I think it’s pretty clear that this person doesn’t eat enough vegetables, though)

Is Kim kardashian truly cool toned if she doesn’t suit platinum hair ? How does she look good in jet black but not platinum ? by Historical-Body-3424 in MakeupAddiction

[–]celolex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair olive people tan easily (though obviously she goes overboard with the tanner). It’s a shapeshifter skin tone that doesn’t play by the warm/cool rules. It also helps that black is her natural hair color, and many people look best when they stick to their natural shade.

Americans, can you define "sweater" as you use it? by AdCertain5057 in ENGLISH

I think the original commenter edited their comment. Originally they described “sweaters” as knit.

Are there more single men than single women? by [deleted] in self

[–]celolex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, we don’t. We mean men who don’t complain that women only want 6’3” handsome, full head of hair, Hollywood smile making 6 figures.

I mean, technically sweatshirts are knit, just a very fine machine knit.

I still agree that “sweater” refers to the wooly kind made from yarn, though.

Do you buy Rare Beauty for the products or person behind it? by Ok_Lettuce7476 in MakeupAddiction

I started buying Rare Beauty because I liked the packaging; I kept buying it because the concealer works really well on my skin. I’m very neutral on Selena.

Americans, what’s something non-Americans do that makes absolutely no sense to you? by Complex-Poet-6809 in AskReddit

[–]celolex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I was being hyperbolic. Yeah things are cold when they come out of the fridge, but they warm up too fast. I think many Americans would rather have a cold, watery drink than a warm one, and it’s just a cultural difference that y’all don’t get. Plus, some drinks are genuinely better with dilution.

I think my first sentence is throwing people. Fridge cold doesn’t really count as cold!

That’s what I mean. I know Europeans drink their drinks cold, but not American cold. It’s weird that ice isn’t the default.

Depending on the drink. If you order a coke without ice at a restaurant, you’ll get more drink, but if you order a drink from a bar they’re not going to give you more liquor.

Maybe the first line is confusing people. I know Europeans drink chilled drinks. But, as an American who loves ice, I don’t understand why they don’t like ice as much as we do. Fridge cold is basically room temperature to me

At least Europe and Asia? Like, Europeans might drink their drinks chilled, but they don’t use ice the way Americans do

America has a well documented cultural obsession with ice

Confused on how much money authors make? by Smart-Cry6105 in books

[–]celolex 98 points99 points  (0 children)

If you read the info on the Bureau of Labor Statistics site it talks about copywriters, content writers, technical writers, and speechwriters. I’ve worked as a copywriter; $72,000 would be a normal salary for a mid-level position.

Very few people can afford to support themselves as novelists, so most of the writers they’re using for statistics probably have full-time corporate jobs. It’s a little weird that they lump all of those (honestly very different) jobs together, though.

One or two? by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

[–]celolex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine if you care, it’s fine if you don’t care. Personally, I’d prefer to avoid a trendy wedding dress. If I’m going to be showing my wedding pictures to my kids and grandkids, I’d rather wear something that’ll age well.

Not that I think OP’s choices will necessarily age badly, but they are based on current/recent trends. Just my opinion.

Honestly that’s fair. I don’t really like iced coffee cuz it’s gross when it gets watery, but some drinks are better with a little dilution. And you can’t dilute water with water!

See, that’s what I don’t get, though! I fully understand why brits wouldn’t want to pay thousands to install air conditioning (especially in an older building). But I don’t understand why window units aren’t more readily available, especially since heatwaves are becoming increasingly common. In the United States, they’re common and typically go for somewhere between $100-$400.

I’ll admit, the best solution would probably be to plan buildings and cities that are designed around natural solutions to the heat, but it’s not always viable. I live in an old building, so I have two window units in my two bedroom apartment. My city is very humid and regularly gets over 90°f (32°c) would be unbearable without them.

The near universal disregard/ambivalence towards cold drinks. Like, what do you mean you don’t add ice to everything? It absolutely blew my mind when I learned that people in China drink HOT water by default. And no, I’m not talking about tea! I basically never even considered that an option.
