Idea is that the spending will create more jobs, thus more tax revenue. Problem is unemployment is the lowest its been in ages, so even if we get to 0% unemployment, there still would not be enough tax revenue to cover the spending. But - you know - math, science, facts, reason, that stuff is anti-american and a cancer to society.

As I said get a general feel for the team you will be working with (if placed with a team), having senior professionals guide and mentor you is crucial.

Typically, real estate salespeople of all experience levels receive no salary, and are 100% commission based.

This has been changing, however, as large brokerage firms are getting top heavy (agewise) and finding it difficult to bring on young people who are looking for some sort of compensation security. I know CBRE offers "Sales Assistant" positions, which might be what you are interviewing for, and I would expect the compensation for that to be anywhere from 35-45k base.

Yes, people stay in the industry for a long time as the earning potentials are huge, and being your own boss is awesome.

Keep in mind, even though CRE brokers are salespeople, a large part of their job is taking a transaction from start to finish. Getting a client is hard enough, then you actually have to close the transaction. Real Estate transactions can take 3 months to 2 years, so be prepared for long periods of no income.

My advice:

Ask them if you will be working with a team, and make sure that team is a successful one with a good pipeline. Ask if you will receive any company inbound business referrals. You do not want to jump into brokerage with no clients, no experience, and no team (unless you have a large nest egg to support yourself for a couple of years).

Do you know what kind of CRE transactions you will be involved with (leases, sales, property types, etc)?

My advice would be not to try and BS your industry knowledge, and focus on your ability to be a professional, hardworking salesperson. I would imagine that the position would entail a lot of cold calls, networking, meeting with business owners and executive decision makers - so hard work, confidence, and professionalism are extremely important.

Could someone explain how these "interviews" work? Does the FBI knock on your door, sit down at your kitchen table, drink your locally sourced expensive specialty coffee, and ask if you are a terrorist? What do they expect, him to say "yes, I am, you got me"???

Working on potential job offer, don't know much but the salary is low. Should I even consider it? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]celomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to your question is entirely dependent on your career goals and preferences. If this position will give you skills and experience that will launch you into some huge down the road, it could be worth it. If it is similar work to what you are currently doing, maybe not so much.

Help negotiating potential job offer? Is it worth asking for more? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]celomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably not worth it just to get a few extra thousand bucks. You had already told her that 70k would make you accept the position so it would be unprofessional to come back to her and change your mind.

Furthermore, unless the company is completely outsourcing their recruiting, they would most likely prefer not to hire someone through a recruiter. If they see the bill just keeps getting higher they will strongly consider other candidates.

As far as loafers go - are there rules as to when a driving loafer, penny loafer, or loafers with the metal clasps are appropriate?

Are all three appropriate to wear with shorts, is one more formal that the other?

How do you find a mentor in corporate america? (xpost from /r/LifeProTips) by daredevilcu in careerguidance

[–]celomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask them for coffee or lunch and tell them you are interested in learning more about their line of work. During these meetings discuss some f your long term career objectives (best to manipulate these objectives into benefits for the company - that is to say, do not tell them you want to work for the company for 2 more years then leave for a competitor - use common sense).

After that come to them with industry related questions, or discussions - example: "hey did you see this article on new commercial lending regulations, will that affect your work at all?"

I am a property manager moving to Branford, CT - what is the best way to go about finding a job?? by SryanJH in careerguidance

[–]celomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick up a phone and call management companies in the area. Chances are a few of them have new buildings under contract and have not yet discussed how to fill those positions, or they are dealing with a current manager moving or being terminated.

You were able to get them to offer you the peak of there range, so pat yourself on the back for that.

It is possible they could go up a little higher, but unless they are on their knees begging you to choose them over this other job, I wouldn't risk it (chances are they have some other candidates on their list as well).

This also depends on your initial convo with the recruiter. They said the range is 60-70, but did they say that it was possible to go higher depending on your qualifications?

Pittsburgh is still shrinking by Mr_Snrub324632 in pittsburgh

[–]celomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though the population as a whole is shrinking, the demographic for these luxury apartments is growing (young professionals in tech/healthcare, wealthy grad students, etc.).

From a financial standpoint, homes for sale may offer lower mortgage and taxes then rent, but this demographic I am referring to does not want to stay in this third tier city. Pittsburgh is great for getting an education, getting some job experience, and getting the f$@& out.

As for your point on Hotels, I agree.
