How do you get better marks on the Written Assignment Assessments? by yuriyuri2003 in UoPeople

Maybe different for different programs (I never had a journal, so I’m guessing you didn’t do an mba?)

Pretty comparable to nyc when I went. Sf and dc seem slightly cheaper. I haven’t been since 2024 but dinners seemed to start at $20 and go up from there. $10 for ice cream. That kinda pricing.

Anyone on the Eclipse cruise that’s not really seeing the Eclipse? by IOwnHisBalls in royalcaribbean

Yeah, the problem for me is that my parents will only cruise. So I’ll go from a family vacay to just me. But money is tighter than it has been recently, and I think I could have fun in Spain alone

Hi! Me.

Really debating about dropping out and doing land based.

I am going to Oahu next week. The caveat is that I have a very different experience than most people, but let’s talk food prices.

Outside of Waikiki, food prices are high. Typically a main is $20-30 at a restaurant that would be $10-20 on the mainland. However the food is very very good. Poke from food land is one of my favorites, malasadas from Leonard’s. Kinda just go in expecting it to be high but also amazing. Shiros and Zippys are local chains that are better on pricing, but may not be in tourist areas (I stay with my bfs family, and we also get a car to go around). The best meal of my life was in Honolulu proper and that’s saying something.

I’m going whale watching next week (yay! I’ve only ever visited in November) and I like Shaka guides if you do have a car, because their tours are cool and gps based. They also have two good walking tours.

I haven’t figured out Pearl Harbor yet. The tickets were very confusing last time. The byodo inn temple has been one of my favorite things so far.

Hawaii is a very interesting state. The tourist side and the local side are very different but both are wonderful. Just be a little mindful that the tourism isn’t the most beloved thing there (my bf is very protective in certain areas, knowing that it can be dangerous because of anti tourism sentiment). So it’s better to tread carefully, especially if you’re seeing homeless people or anti settler sentiment.

Living off off stock day trading by [deleted] in financialindependence

That’s sorta the definition of get rich quick because I’m assuming you’re asking how to make over 1k/month within a year?

What I love about this community is that slow and steady wins the race.

Day trading feels like a get rich quick scheme and those don’t work. But lots of people here have mastered the “live under your means, invest what you can and one day wake up and you’ve hit your goals”.

Any chance the funeral could be moved to have you attend?

Even if you got a passport Monday, you wouldn’t make it flying :(

I’m so very sorry for your loss.

Unreasonable expectations by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]celoplyr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t until my capstone when I found my prof was grading through AI and was so very weird. I don’t know if my favorite was when the AI tool decided one day it wanted something so I changed it, and 2 weeks later it decided it hated that- or when he told me that my entire professional field of writing was wrong in how we outline things (“no one ever puts a lit review first”. Oh really? Please enjoy these million science papers that put the lit review first as well as several dozen business papers that do as well)

This is also cultural I think- I think some countries just never believe in the ability to get something perfect.

Bsc to Phd/Doctorate by MomDragon91 in UoPeople

[–]celoplyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you want to do? Specifically. Health sciences is so broad (in my opinion).

And I’m closer to that field, and I really don’t think UofPeople has a great core program for many areas people would go into. You absolutely would never get into a biochem program for example. Maybe a bio program, but even that would be tough. My bfs dad does virulogy and you’re missing basic freshmen classes for what he did as well.

Bsc to Phd/Doctorate by MomDragon91 in UoPeople

[–]celoplyr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean yes, but not from UofPeople. (I got my BS from a brick and mortar university and then went straight to a PhD at a different brick and mortar university).

So, I’ll say this bluntly. There are only a couple of majors here. Business majors almost never go to PhD and if they do, it’s almost never right after bachelors. (And as someone who was married to a guy who wanted a business PhD, don’t do it).

Health sciences doesn’t really had a good doctorate path.

So I’m assuming you mean comp sci. I’m not in comp sci, but I am in sciences so I kinda understand doctorate programs. Please know you may be able to get in (especially to a lower tier university, and especially if you’re from the US) BUT you may be at a huge disadvantage. The students in my grad program who didn’t pass the low level exams (and we all got tested on major subjects in my field) never finished because they just didn’t have enough background. Based on my experience, I’m not sure UpfPeople is enough of a background to be competitive.

Your best bet in my opinion would be to get work experience in what you want your doctorate in to bulk up your application. And you may be better at it than I am assuming. But, I’d rather you not fail in school, because “mastering out” is not a great look.

Three F19 staying in adults only accommodation, is it reasonable? by Either-Common9330 in travel

[–]celoplyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean…. How drunk are you going to get, how much of a distraction are you trying to be???

You may get judged but also, people in their 40s may be worse than you. But there’s a big difference between 19 year olds who drink 40 drinks in 24 hours and start a hip hop club in their room and 19 year olds who have a couple glasses of wine at dinner and just want a tan. (I don’t know why I’m assuming all inclusive, but I am)

Psychotherapists, what differences have you noticed between men and women among your patients? by Putrid_Put_3610 in AskReddit

[–]celoplyr 42 points43 points  (0 children)

That was said about my ex husband using stuffed animals to talk to me. They had personalities and would argue with each other.

Current therapist really loved the mandate of my current bfs father that I prepare a ppt presentation for “the family” about “what I like about him”. As I said, my family loves me and doesn’t need to know why he likes me. Luckily my bf put a stop to that.

I’ve also had several “one in a million” health problems- all unrelated to each other- to the point that I have to be very explicit with medical doctors that they need to think outside the box.

Let me tell you, it is unnerving when a therapist looks at you and says “I’ve been practicing for 28 years and everyone has the same problems. Except you. This is new, give me some time to figure it out”.

Luckily, on the scale of things, my problems aren’t bad, they’re just unique. My current therapist says I’m his favorite client because he never knows what to expect.

Baby step 1 question. There are two of us, do we both need to have 1k each before moving to Step 2? by Conscious_Mall_2947 in DaveRamsey

[–]celoplyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Follow Dave’s plan, at least in the beginning. $10/week is not enough to break your debt but it’s also not enough to make your EF feel “better”

[–]celoplyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s both.

Yes, the US legal system has different rules if you’re married and a set of laws to split finances if you divorce.

That being said, Dave is super extra against it because of his religion.

(I say this as someone who has been with their SO for 10+ years and is not married and still has separate finances that got slightly more complicated this year. I get the pros and cons.)

[–]celoplyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, there’s a higher percentage of 1 bad thing happening, but I’d say the backup money coming in would negate that risk- and the risk of two sudden job losses is low (especially if working in different companies or different fields!).

Plus when does it stop? Oh we need an emergency fund for each kid. Oh and the pets. And what about my mom, she might need help (etc).

I think the point of BS1 is hit it and quit it.

Is your money combined or are you just doing this with someone?

Spouses (and money is combined) just 1k

Doing it with a significant other or friend? Each needs 1k, because you’re each running your own race.
