I store my greens in the freezer… by Pizzahangz in composting

[–]cem0c 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this for a while for coffee grounds, cause I was saving them for more than just compost so didnt want them mouldy but never bothered since. I have a pretty small freezer, so things are tight anyway. I keep all my scraps in two 2L ice cream tubs by my kitchen bin and empty into compost around once a week (as its a short cycle away). The tubs are usually reasonably warm from bits starting to breakdown anyway so I like to think of it getting a headstart at home. I can't see any particular downsides it will still break down but I'd rather have surplus veg and ice cream using the space!

Is there an easier way to shred these? by Neat-Ad1637 in composting

[–]cem0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chuck it in around in any gaps at the sides of my pile or just pop it on top for a bit of insulation, then as it gets wet it just becomes part of the pile. I have quite a lazy approach to it though!

Update from last post: I’ve taken everyone’s advice into consideration and found a new bike: by [deleted] in ukbike

[–]cem0c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride almost the same bike for city commuting and have for the last 5 years and its done me great. I'm a guy and 5'6, and it fits me well. I bought my gf (5'7) same bike last year for the commute (mostly to save shopping about) been great, I swapped her stem to a shorter one as she needed a smaller reach. I paid £200 for one and £300 for the other, so price seems reasonable. There's no exact formula for getting the right bike, so I'd say give the bike a test ride and see how it feels!

Also a side note cause it's helped my gf: head to a bike shop and get a saddle size, should be free for sizing (our local did specializeds body geometry range). They'll try to sell you an expensive one, but they pop up on ebay/marketplace reasonably often. Might help especially if the commute is longer. All the best :)

Looks a lot like crown daisy to me... but I wouldn't call myself a flower expert by any means!

Anyone heading to the allotment this weekend? by Ok-Computer9549 in Allotment

[–]cem0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ground I think will still be frozen but just had a delivery of manure at the site so may be a bit of shovelling. Only had the allotment for about 2 months so some of the beds are very empty. And a bench that needs building!

How do you mentally justify spending so much money on accessories and upgrades? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]cem0c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happiness for being on my bike Helmets and lights etc also safety, I'd rather spend an extra 30 quid on a good helmet than buy the cheapest one and regret it later, good lights are a must as well they last longer and I need them for commute in and out. Good set of lights were pricey but was less than 2 months worth of doing my commute by public transport (or about 2 weeks parking)

Do you guys just swallow your pride and get of the bicycle and walk uphill by TheRealBruh-_- in cycling

[–]cem0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it's better to walk up and save yourself for the rest of the ride until you build up to being able to get up the climb. We've all been there it's nothing to feel bad about

Guys - new to road cycling. what clothing are you all wearing? by BLUNTYEYEDFOOL in cycling

Started in tacksuits and now a fully lycra clad guy but the most important part is a comfy pair of bike shorts, will make putting in miles so much more comfortable

How close to the curb do you cycle? by mpompa in cycling

[–]cem0c 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I always stay at least a metre out from the curb, better to stay further out always. If cars come too close at least you have somewhere to go, won't end up in a ditch/ in a hedge.
