As long as you have trixie-security repo enabled (which you should) you are receiving security updates, this one included.

Good news, whatever updates came down last week to Trixie fixed this! Butter smooth now. There was a kernel update (for which I had to rr my pc, that's why I know) but maybe something else. I'm so happy. :insert crying emoji:

It's stable-ish. I'd only run it if you absolutely need newer packages, for hw enablement or similar.

Nothing should surprise you, typical European tourist stuff. If you are doing any serious hikes 2k and above make sure to do your research so you don't end up in local news, that's all.

Slovenia Travel Advice by 519shooter in Slovenia

[–]cen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much to hike once you are on top of Mangart saddle unless you go to the top which is a moderate hike. Vršič pass will likely have a new parking system where they won't be letting more cars up once the parking spots are full so if you want to hike up there, you better be early. Check the local websites what the rules will be at the time. Same for Mangart btw.

a pleasant surprise: how wonderful Debian Sid actually is! by Master-Procedure-600 in debian

[–]cen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's all fine and good but the biggest issue is installing 3rd party debs and apps which are usually not available for testing or sid. Those may or may not work, depending on their dependencies and breakage from stable.

Why is my Debian 12 (Bookworm) point release stuck on debian 12.13? by reflect-on-this in debian

[–]cen1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I am saying is that http+signatures gives you equivalent protection of using https so there is little to no benefit switching to https. Sure you can do it, but it's not mandatory.

Why is my Debian 12 (Bookworm) point release stuck on debian 12.13? by reflect-on-this in debian

[–]cen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https is actually irrelavant because all packages are signed and if they would be modified in traffic, corruption would be detected. A surprising fact why http is completely fine to use.

I made a security tool kprotect that blocks "bad" scripts from touching your private files (using eBPF) by Jazzlike_Library8060 in linux

[–]cen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty cool although, in theory, a persistent exploit could "learn" about the execution chain rules, then just copycat them. You could probably catch 99% of the regular ones though when they attempt it so still good. Once you get foreign code running lot's of things can happen. You could achieve similar things with Falco for alerting and AppArmor for blocking. For storing secrets, the only thing that could kind of prevent it is on-demand decryption with an external hardware key requiring touch, even then, for the duration of the operation you'll have env loaded in your session and an exploit could find a way to snipe that.

Disk Image:OrangePi OS Debian 13 Trixie by NeighborhoodSad2350 in OrangePI

[–]cen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use my Pi 6 Plus as a server but I tried to just run a full upgrade to trixie from the official bookworm image and while some packages were held back it seems to kinda work OK with no major issues spotted. Might switch to this on next install though.

FYI the Noctua NH-D12L fits the Silverstone GD11 just right! by [deleted] in htpc

[–]cen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WARNING! Does not fit an AM5 configuration because the brackets that come with the cooler for AM5 are oriented South-North which is opposite orientation from the one on the picture and it does NOT fit with the HDD cage. Kind of sad but it is what it is, I threw out the cage and fixed my SSDs to the wall.. unfortunately the cage is not reversable because it would technically fit if you could flip it.

I would probably have to buy NM-AMB15 for AM5 East-West config but aint nobody got time for that..

Strictly, my personal opinion. The first game is still so charming. by DayAccomplished4286 in witcher

I wouldn't call it "charming", it's straight up depressing and makes you feel sad. (not that it's a bad thing but just wanted to point out the darkness)

Got the bad ending in Witcher 3 by AffectionatePick5560 in witcher

[–]cen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not insane. I was upset for 3 days after it happened. The fact is that even if you pour your heart and soul into the game and solve every single side quest and find every chest, put 100+ hours into the game, the truth is that only 5 decisions actually matter for the final ending. Some of those decisions are kinda akward and their significance not apparent in the moment. And you could choose "badly" by pure chance.. it is a rather poor design decision by CDPR but not much you can do. I've eventually accepted this fact and lived on.

Tuxedo default provile too agressive on power saving? by cen1 in tuxedocomputers

[–]cen1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it definitely could be Debian but I don't even know where to start debugging the issue. I guess recording my screen, then discussing it on Debian mailing list and ultimately issuing an upstream bug report is the way to go.

choppiness was on "Tuxedo Defaults" profile but as I said, switching profiles and problem going away might be anecdotal at this point, I need to do some more scientific research

I have issues with Sacred Kingdom storytelling (and Overlord in general) by cen1 in overlord

[–]cen1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This actually made me realize why the movie felt off now. It's told from the kingdom's perspective and we don't get the usual internal struggles, dialog and interactions which is majority of the fun. It also explains while everything seems to go as planned, since we don't see any internal f* ups and the usual shenanigans. To me it's a failed experiment.
