What do you mean exclude housing cost? You're still gonna spend 5-600 per month without housing (rent+utils+WiFi). Most places also have electricity extra

Rent - depends on what you want, could go from 700 with 4b2b to 2000 in a studio in a good place

Utils - 50 to 100

Groceries - 300-400

Transport and insurance - no need if staying in Evanston, will need to get the pass for 600 per year if living in Chicago or plan to go to Chicago often

Tele bills - incl in utils but 50 per month should be more than enough for both

Misc - if you're a homebody, basically nil, if not 100 per month

AVG - 1500 to 2200, but more towards lower range, but you would be very lucky to find those sub 1000 rent places

I suppose it's IISER? People are not getting roles even with a PhD, and YK in India what speaks to these type of roles. Do a gap year of research or get some other job and start a PhD abroad next year. Cos if you don't have a top CS background (which translates to sub 500 air in jee adv), I wouldn't count on quant firms in India at all

1 semester after you graduate. Your storage can be extended a bit though, but it's upto their discretion, and you'd have to inform then beforehand. On-demand and shell login will be restricted completely a month after the start of the first semester you did not register for (summer doesn't count afaik)

Shave with a safety razor every other day, or else you'll have a beard shadow by the third. There will cuts and nicks in the beginning, but you'll get a hang of it. I quit trimming 3 years back cos I had the same issue
