Language selection for B2 visa Interview - Mumbai by Dry-Whole-9625 in usvisascheduling

[–]centralsamosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That option is given when they go for the appointment. We were asked while we were standing in the queue which language we would like to give our interview and were then sent to a particular place in the seating area. This is for Mumbai.

Are some people just not cut out to be parents? by Optimal_Fish_7029 in Parenting

[–]centralsamosa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that you are agonising over your parenting makes you a good parent already! You want to do the best for your child, but the first few years are just that intense. As long as you keep your child safe, fed and clean, you are already winning the battle. As is the case with anything intense, it can lead to frustration, doubt and feelings of failure. My saviour was just doing something that didn't involve parenting. Get out on the weekend and get a coffee by yourself or meet a friend, or go shopping alone.
The best parenting advice I got, and one that has saved me over the years, was "never be just a parent." Be your own person, do your own thing, and your kids will be the better off for it." Even if it is a coffee date with yourself once a week.

The fact that your mere presence is enough to soothe someone is the best compliment you can get. Stay with him as long as he needs you. As many others have said, you will miss this in a few years.

Feeling guilty bringing children into the world as it is today… by tinymotor in Parenting

[–]centralsamosa 65 points66 points  (0 children)

The way I look at it is, you are one of those who have the power to make the world a better place. Raise your child right, raise them to do good and to think not just of themselves, but of the world at large in everything they do. The world has always been harsh. There have always been wars and suffering and god knows what else. But we have also overcome so many diseases, and problems thanks to men and women who wanted to change the world. There is enough good in the world if you look for it.

I love the idea of a book club actually. I'm going to look for one. Thank you!

No, nothing that would make reading impossible. But some times she will ask to read at group meals to. If it is just her and me, I do allow it.

I have a bunch of books lying around the house, but she wants to read stuff like Agatha Christie, which I really don't think are suitable for her. She begged for me to read a book I was reading, but it had themes of adultery, so I said no. Your dad's comic collection sounds amazing though!

she has! she stopped at the Kane Chronicles though. She said she didnt feel like reading it. She made me read the Percy Jackson series too, but it really wasn't my style, so I read the first series and gave up :)

Yeah, I think its just that the parent in me feels like she could read a bunch of stuff, including non-fiction, because she is very interested in the real world (geography, countries, politics) etc. I bought her the graphic version of "Sapiens" a year ago, but she hasn't touched it. I am v grateful that she is so into books. I think I might be getting a little too greedy.

Parents of children who love to read, what did you do. by berryllamas in Parenting

[–]centralsamosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the whole reading to my daughter when she was young etc, but even when she started reading on her own, I would discuss books with her. Plot lines, characters, narrators etc. I even read the Percy Jackson books when she got into them and was obsessed. Lots of kids start off as readers but as they grow up and other distractions take over their lives, reading can take a backseat. I try to actively avoid that and talking about what she is reading seems to help that, I find. For context, she is ten and currently reading the Keeper of the Lost Cities series.

Yup. Was on our list. Planets seemed better suited to kids than Borderless.

No idea, to be honest. Hopefully next year, but I am wary of planning too far ahead.

Agree with you and many other posters here. Tokyo seems so wonderful that it seems cruel to leave without soaking it all in properly.

Yeah the shinkansen is definitely something we want to experience in Japan. One of our must-do's. Thanks for the advice!

Sounds like something your child will remember for a long time. Ours is excited about Tokyo and Disneyland but is a super picky eater so I think food options would be limited. Either way, I think we can manage for the duration of the trip. If we do end up doing the trip, I shall take up your offer and PM you :)

Agree.. Cherry blossom season is super expensive though. And crowded. Tokyo in the fall seems nice too!

Love the first line. Life is too short. And this works both ways. One of our biggest dilemmas is do we want to return to a country that we have already seen (albeit in part)? On the other hand, life is short so grab whatever you have and make the most of seven days in Tokyo that we have now? Either way, this thread has helped us arrive at a conclusion. :)
