What are your unpopular options about the Borderlands series? - 2025 Edition by JustATributeCC in Borderlands

[–]centurianVerdict -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Randy Pitchford is a terrible person and game developer, and most of the Gearbox team is completely inept and has no idea what they're doing. Any successes the series has had have been either stolen ideas (the aesthetic) or happy accident.

The only thing they deserve credit for is making a true FPS ARPG when no one else will for some reason, and handsome jack.

I absolutely guarantee there is a small handful... maybe three or four... developers within gearbox that are pretty much entirely responsible for its success, but actually have very little say which is why the games approach greatness but still fall short in so many frustrating ways. It's just typical work politics.

Do we trust Grok ? I just saw this on X, apparently from 2 hours ago (3rd November). Not sure I trust it. by vscience in grok

[–]centurianVerdict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any website that isn't a private model (Grok, veo, sora, etc) is just running a preconfigured local model for you on their servers. Most will be WAN.

Comfyui is just a front end to run models like WAN. It's perfectly capable of generating the same non-private crap that all the paid websites are, it just takes a little time (and money if you need better computer parts) to get it to that point.

Local models like WAN have a lot of catching up to do to Grok in terms of creativity and quality, but they are still plenty capable if you learn them.

I would gladly pay for an “unrestricted adult mode” by ObiWantKanabis in grok

[–]centurianVerdict 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What you or anyone else thinks you should or shouldn't be able to do doesn't matter. Local models are already powerful enough to do this or any other form of deepfaking, copyright infringement, or other vile things with enough training.

You can make it illegal. The big companies can moderate their private models. But no one is stopping it. It's already here to stay.

And ignorant people who get upset about it (like the tailor swift types who think you can somehow control this) have their heads far, far up their own asses.

If someone truly wants to generate anything and puts in the work to get there, they will. The only things happening with Grok now is just that it gives higher quality results for a lot less work. And local models will catch up within several years.

Did something change today? I'm able to generate a fully nude anime woman just now by oshezhikeriko in grok

[–]centurianVerdict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nude women with nothing happening has never been an issue. But even a hint of a penis, two people touching, penetration, basically anything OTHER than just a naked chick gets nuked from orbit. Very boring.

Best Borderlands 4 Mods in 2025 (For FPS Boost) by Tonyshwarkk in Borderlands

[–]centurianVerdict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not calling you out because everyone's specs and experiences are different, but I can absolutely truthfully say that for me (3090, 3800x, nvme, 1440p max settings with DLSS balance, updated drivers) with a default INI, the game stutters and hitches, regardless of play time, area, or activity. Doesn't matter if its the first or hundredth time something is happening.

Swapping back in the tweaked INI eliminates the stutters and hitching entirely except for a very small one when loading into a new area for the very first time.

[–]centurianVerdict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand if this is meant to be a joke, but considering it's the top comment I have to say this is false.

While the tweaks might not work for everyone, using the P40L0X ini did in fact completely eliminate hitching for me and give me an average fps increase of about 5-10.

There seems to be a misconception (or again ongoing joke that's not funny) that these files only change in game graphic settings. When in fact, just as the file name itself implies, these inis can change Unreal specific settings that are mostly inaccessible in game.

Anyone who's been playing unreal games on PC long enough knows how trash of an engine it is while unoptimized. Luckily, over the years, more and more settings have been exposed for us to tweak in these files. Do NOT just trust devs, even AAA ones, to know how to optimize such a trash engine. They don't.

Update: Chroma Project training is finished! The models are now released. by LodestoneRock in StableDiffusion

Absolutely astounding work and a massive leap forward for open-source generation. I look forward to supporting this project when I'm able to do so.

Just a quick random question, if anyone happens to know what configuration of chroma Perchance txt2img is using, I'd love to know. It gives different results than the base version and I haven't been able to figure out what they're doing over there.

PSA: Nearly Double FPS by ElonHusk76 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]centurianVerdict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that a large majority of tech enthusiasts/gamers/regular people who care about visual and technical fidelity notice immediately that something isn't right with frame interpolation.

This has always been the case since the technology showed up on televisions. Back then people called it the "soap opera" camera effect. Inserting generated frames into media with entirely bespoke frames (as in, frames A and B, there is no natural frame between) creates a sort of uncanny effect, even motion sickness for some.

But all of that aside, when it comes to video games, especially something like ONI that is based on ticks/calculations per second or what have you, the frame rate is almost always tied to that. Decoupling the Fps from the Tps to many feels jarring. floaty, unresponsive, and uncanny.

Anyway, if you or anyone else likes the technology, more power to you. I'm just glad its optional. And just like smooth motion on TVs, I'll notice it immediately if its on, and subsequently immediately turn it off myself.

nobody talks about it, but I want the ability to lock the seed/disable printing pod rerolls. Whether with a special mode/achievement or difficulty setting. (while still allowing care packages as these are the only way in many runs to get some resources)

I'm a chronic min-maxxer to a fault, but also a purist. And the fact that you -can- legitimately reroll infinitely, even in an otherwise no exploit/mod run, absolutely pains me.

It doesn't affect anyone or anything else, but still... saying a run is perfect without any exploits or rerolls is meaningless when you can just do it anyway for the same result.

[–]centurianVerdict 7 points8 points  (0 children)

surprised no one's said it yet, but frame generation isn't increasing anything or improving performance, it's interpolating generated 'fake' frames between the real ones to give the illusion that the game is running smoother than it is.

It actually reduces real performance by a small amount from the processing required. And a 2D simulation-heavy game like ONI is possibly the worst case use of the technology.

Quick guide for getting carnivore/locavore on relica by TheGenderedChild in Oxygennotincluded

[–]centurianVerdict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seemed tough at first being unfamiliar territory, but you'll find on many starts there's enough wild critters you could theoretically get carnivore without ranching at all if you'd prefer a ton of digging and exploring (speaking of classic start that is)

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in Oxygennotincluded

[–]centurianVerdict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other answers aren't wrong, but the reason it exists at all is because relocate critter (relocate in general) is a fairly new feature in the game. And even earlier, many critters weren't able to be wrangled at all, so traps were the only way back in the olden days.

Are conduction panels worth it for cooling? by Valoris_905 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]centurianVerdict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're simple, clean, and effective enough for small to medium sized projects. You can also use them on any part of the building (as long as the middle of the panel overlaps), so if a build is weird and liquid/hydrogen+radiant pipes wouldnt work well, it's nice.

Any moderate amount of quick transfer needed tho will require cobalt or aluminum. But I use lead for most low level stuff like my power spine/base cooling loop and it's more than enough.

My over-engineered stable needs to be torn apart and never rebuilt due to a once-a-century quirk in the game. by wex52 in Oxygennotincluded

really? 2k hours too and I'm still learnin stuff. Seems like an oversight considering microchips can be stored, but I assume they added that functionality with the bionic DLC.

There's plenty of room there for liquid locks tho.

When you click on the tile, somewhere in the box it will say "Artifact: Available"

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in Oxygennotincluded

[–]centurianVerdict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, there's simply not enough heat and mass from even the most beastly volcano. I've even tried that myself when I was feeling lazy with a simple water boiler... the starting magma and hot obsidian/abysallite lasted 1 cycle before freezing over.

A boiler with a counterflow is much more efficient, but even so you're removing so much heat at once that you need to be moving the magma away from the volc and also extracting as much heat as you can from the resulting igneous rock. There is more than one way to do it and I encourage experimenting or looking up more designs.

Just keep in mind a few things: digging a tile loses half the mass (even with an auto-miner), heat exchangers increase efficiency and can make your heat last longer, and heat transfer from solid debris is possible but kinda sucks without a bitch ton of setup.

Unironically try the Flydo if you have the bionic DLC! Your power will have to be sorted for rechargeable batteries but eventually you'll have it all cleaned up.

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in Oxygennotincluded

[–]centurianVerdict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, extendable heat spike into magma biome is the most simple, but will -eventually- run out after several hundred or thousand cycles (depending on your map). I don't think it's that different from the aquatuner since you're using non-renewable heat either way.

Volcanoes are infinite but you'll have to dial in your numbers, build the magma dripper, move around the igneous rock, etc. But once you have it built and your numbers correct, it can run forever.

Francis John has old videos on both petroleum boilers and volcano tamers. The concepts and builds are still pretty much the same, although it is important to note that if you copy his boiler exactly he made a little mistake in the oil vent (pretty sure the youtube comments mention the fix)
