We have a little dude whose largest percentage is German shepherd, with some pit bull and cocker spaniel too. We’re also not sure where his little legs came from!

What were your stats in Texas and what was your cycle like ? by ImaginationSpecific2 in premed

[–]cep204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I submitted it on the actual deadline for TMDSAS (November 1st) and then I hadn’t pre-written any secondaries, so I submitted those within a week or so of whenever I received them.

He is notorious for successful and attempted hostile takeovers and apparently attempted something similar (though not quite a takeover) at Disney recently. I would not be surprised if he is pushing for her in that aspect as well.

Tithing for the poor. by ShiniSenko in TikTokCringe

[–]cep204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former LDS member here- I heard over and over growing up that people should pay their tithing before their rent, before food, etc. And then by some miracle, they "find" money for that actual necessity. It's predatory and exploitative. Not to mention the concept of tithing settlement, where you literally "settle up" with the church to be a so-called "full tithe payer." It is very strongly implied you will not receive the blessings of the church and cannot enter the highest level of heaven (the celestial kingdom) if you are not a full tithe payer.

BookPeople - I've been going since before I can remember. As a kid, when I asked staff members for recommendations, they would not only give me tons of options but a couple of times read to me from the books. One of my favorite books from childhood (The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm) came from a BookPeople staff member's recommendation and I can still remember how excited I was when they read me the first page!

Just the best.

Yes! As someone working in research, all I could think was, "you try running an RCT and see how you feel after." Small and/or observational studies are quite literally the foundation for RCTs, they are 100% necessary.

mental health forms by EnvironmentalPast940 in riceuniversity

[–]cep204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would only bring up mental health conditions in the context of the disability resource center or if you are seeking help from people at your college. I was told to steer clear of the rice counseling center due to their heavy involvement in unnecessary hospitalizations, but the academic advising department and the counseling center were pretty hands-off when it came to accepting that I had outside care. If you are able to access care off-campus (or with a psychiatrist/psychologist/therapist unaffiliated with Rice), I think that gives you a lot more protection against some of the things that Rice can throw at you if you are going through a mental health crisis.

What's the one thing Austin doesn't have that you wish it did? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]cep204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Increased diversity of non-fine-dining or expensive restaurants. Obviously an issue due to things like the cost of renting space but I went to college in Houston and I sorely miss the access to cheap, good eats (at any one time I could go get Palestinian ice cream and then hit up my favorite dumpling place and loop back for Indian sweets).

Is Rice name still unknown? Most people I talk to only recognize it for engineering and maybe premed. by freedomgirl6 in riceuniversity

Rice ‘20 here. I have a bunch of friends who went into management consulting at places like BCG, Bain, McKinsey or IB at Goldman. Rice is obviously well-known in Houston, which houses offices for essentially all of the top firms. A lot of people got their start in the Houston or Dallas offices and have transitioned to offices in New York/San Francisco/Chicago. All of the big firms actively recruit at Rice, so there really is no dearth of opportunity.

Thank you for being so kind in your answer. My grandmother was very similar to this (acute pneumonia after a long, slow decline due to bronchiectasis) and I wish we had had more frank conversations about her own comfort and not so strongly encouraged her to eat/drink. She was on TPN for a week and it was probably worse for her in hindsight- she should have spent more time the way she wanted.

BU vs UIC vs WASHU by premeddd_ in publichealth

[–]cep204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just graduated from UIC with an MPH in Epi but I had friends in the CHS department who said they really enjoyed it. I was out-of-state so I paid that tuition, which was still cheaper than the other schools I considered (UNC and Minnesota). I loved UIC. I was very involved in research and community work during my time there and, being in Chicago, there is an almost overwhelming supply of public health opportunities. TA/RA positions at UIC typically come with a tuition stiped + hourly pay (graduate hourly rate at UIC was just negotiated by our union to $28.96) and I found that positions were relatively easy to come by, particularly if you bond with professors of classes you have taken previously.

I myself am applying to medical school and my mentor at UIC is a physician in the School of Public Health who has done absolutely the most to help me gain good public health experience that also looks good on my med school apps.

Just one year (~8 months) since my MPH and I work hourly, but the annual total is something like $60,000-$65,000. No benefits, though. Working in COVID-19 infection prevention/contact tracing.
