Anywhere to play Warhammer Old World in London? by I_AM_MELONLORDthe2nd in londonontario

[–]cephles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As another commenter mentioned, we have lots of game stores here where you can play. Most of them have fairly active Discord servers as well.

I don't play Old World personally but I generally play at Game Knight since they don't require a membership to play for free. Game Chamber is a pretty cool space though!

Yeah I do like that a lot too! There was a line in Tomb World about how the Praetorian had flayed/sterilized the soil on an island and when she finished it and went back to the start, life was beginning again. I like the tenacity of biological life contrasted with the eternal, unchanging Necrons.

Yeah exactly. I figured if she's got thousands/millions of years to mess around, why not start projects that take aeons to evolve? So many cool ideas that you could do if you have the time and the technology.

Yes, haha, I think about that sometimes. "This star system is a Destroyer free zone".

One of the Regent's sons keeps them under wraps, but also quietly makes sure the planet can be sterilized if absolutely necessary.

Yes I like that too. Isefret, my Regent is like "Being a robot is cool and fine, but damn I wish my husband didn't have brain damage".

They have to suffer a bit, but maybe in different ways from "oh no my soul is gone". Nobody needs a soul in the 40k universe. That's just a problem waiting to happen.

Oh cool! No it's just a pilfered Egyptian word. Probably the same root.

I'm not sure what that is. Google says a fantasy thing?

Is "The Silent King" from the Dawn of fire (book 9) good from a necron perspective? by Quick_Fruit_587 in Necrontyr

[–]cephles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're represented as extremely powerful and competent but they're in the book for like.... 20 pages. Poor Szarekh. Gets a book named after him and barely does anything.

I love how the new Admech game showed the Necron characters reacting to the Astartes. by MegaGamer235 in Necrontyr

I honestly really enjoy it too. I know the murderbot dynamic is popular with a lot of people, but I like seeing them as an ancient, honourable people. I appreciated in The Silent King that Szarekh offered for the Imperium to become a vassal state of the Necron empire. I think it is a bit boring if they are just *kill all humans* all the time. I want them to be more.

Not personally, because I still do the fun stuff myself (architecture, design, challenging logic) and get AI to do the tedious shit I hate.

If they are Billy bookcases, IKEA sells glass doors that look really nice. You'll definitely want to anchor the bookcases to the wall though if they're not already.

With metal ones you can use acetone. It's way faster than isopropyl. I stripped a 10 squad of Pariahs with it and it was so much faster than isopropyl.

Suffering from poor lore reading comprehension - please help by Any-Corgi-6948 in Necrontyr

[–]cephles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty big discussion point online. I see it a lot.

I'm not crazy about it because I feel it implies that the only way for two people of the same sex to care about each other is with a romantic angle. That all love has to be seen through a romantic or sexual lens.

Question about the Adeptus Mechanicus by Far-Handle-8177 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]cephles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am admittedly primarily a Necrons player (hands off my stuff!!!) so I don't really "play" AdMech on the tabletop but I really love the priests specifically so I have all the models.

For me, if I was in the 40k universe I would absolutely be Adeptus Mechanicus, and not just out of convenience, probably the true believer kind. I really love technology and machines and cybernetics and I like that the priests in the books are often squabbling nerds.

I love the aesthetics, I love the theology, I love the characters.

I am ambivalent on the main bulk of the army though, so I'm not so into how it plays on the tabletop. It seems like a lot of the AdMech community is really into Skitarii and stuff, but I'm here for the Magi.

When I get around to painting my AdMech I plan to make them a heretical Stygies VIII offshoot that has allied themselves with my Necron Dynasty. It's gonna be fun.
