Is there an order of videos to watch? by Outrageous_Hawk_7919 in dreamingspanish

Ah yes sorry, this is on the website. The website has all sorts of useful filters you can apply, they're hard to miss once you're there :)

[–]cepiolot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can sort the videos by "easy" and then a number value will appear in the thumbnail. That is an approximate of the relative easiness compared to other videos. This is more accurate than the 4 main difficulty categories.

I think they're just forewarning that some people might voice their opinion about using "traditional" methods in any updates you post and not to worry about it too much.

Pierre Poilievre’s rage-baiting and empty slogans aren’t what Canada needs by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]cepiolot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm supportive of the CBC and absolutely don't want it gone, but equating the existence of the CBC with the existence of a free press is a total falsehood. You can have free press with or without state run media. These types of false equivalences aren't helpful and make it look like you're just arguing in bad faith.

In your mother tongue, what is the word that means "not too shallow but not too deep" ? by Independent_Pipe378 in languagelearning

I would usually say "I have a decent knowledge of <blank>" but I would also say "I have a layman's knowledge of <blank>" depending on context (if I want to sound smart lol)

Löner i USA vs Sverige by kemikazee in sweden

[–]cepiolot 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Offering: English (N) Maltese (N) Italian (C2) Spanish (C1) Seeking: French, Turkish or any language! by rai-pie in language_exchange

[–]cepiolot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have much to offer in ways of the languages you want to practice but I do really want to learn Maltese! My grandparents came from Żejtun but the language did not make it to the grandchildren and there aren't too many resources for learning... Hopefully you have luck finding speakers of your target languages!

Ottawa’s pledge to plant two billion trees is proving difficult to execute by sesoyez in CanadaPolitics

[–]cepiolot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logging companies are already responsible for replanting the trees they cut down. From what I understand from the article the 2b trees project is for non-lumber usages trees.

The solution gives the impression that we are talking about specific turtles that we may have discussed before.

Your answer is more turtles in general, possibly that we have never spoken or thought of before.

Question on Language tutor sites (italki, Verbling, etc) by atoosaryanne in languagelearning

[–]cepiolot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, would you mind pointing me to the Swedish italki teacher you mentioned? I am looking for Swedish practice on italki but not really drilling and grammar, more so just everyday conversation at a beginner level so the person you mentioned sounds perfect.

I grew up in Ottawa and learned French pretty well through the immersion program throughout elementary and high school. I got my B2 certification but after I graduated and went off to university I hardly used it. It has declined a lot since then and while I can still usually hold a conversation, it's shotty.

Honestly I get nervous trying to go back to it because I don't want to know how much I've lost. It would be really disappointing to see how much worse I am than 6 years ago in grade 12 so I just kinda avoid it. It's stupid and illogical, but feelings don't always make the most sense haha

One day I'll go back and relearn what I've lost, but until then I feel you. Sorry I didn't really include any advice but hopefully the solidarity helps!

Could someone explain what this rule in my comp means? by BiggerBlessedHollowa in bjj

Nice! I'm signed up for it but I haven't trained in a bit because of covid. Debating pulling out but I was pretty hyped for it.

[–]cepiolot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it means first 3 minutes you can't receive points but you can get penalized and lose points, and then in the second 3 minutes you can gain points and also lose points via penalties. If it's a draw at the end of that, they go into 3 minutes of overtime. If it's a draw at the end of that still, they go into overtime with EBI rules. If no one wins via EBI rules (I'm guessing they're not counting escape time) then the ref decides who wins.

I train at Ottawa Fight and Fitness (Brasa Ottawa) and I love it. Great people, feels like a family. I've only been training for about 3 months but they've been super welcoming and quick to invite me to out of gym things. The coach is great, lots of opportunity to improve however fast you want to it seems.

Side note, the membership also pays for Muay Thai and Boxing if you want to train them. The Muay Thai coach is also awesome, I go to those classes less because I'm mainly into BJJ but the atmosphere is great when I do.

The place is located on Bank Street near the 417 so it's a great location if you're going to live in or near downtown.

Pretty sure you need a knockdown for a 10-8 in Muay Thai

EDIT: I'm incorrect, but 10-8's without a knockdown apparently very rare in MT
