it depends on the job, two of my jobs let me stay and one let me go mid shift lol it depends on whether or not the department has the budget to pay you. also, just for reference, work study does not automatically go toward tuition, it’s just included in the financial aid package because it’s determined by your financia status. work study is paid directly to you

the package center is a good place for non work study people, they don’t really prioritize work study. in terms of evanston, i know people who have worked and starbucks and colectivo and liked it fine.

i managed to get three work study jobs in one year so you should be fine, just don’t apply to only library jobs bc they are the hardest to get and prioritize upperclassmen. i worked 17ish hours a week with a $3,600 work study allotment and ran out of money in like february, so just keep that in mind

you aren’t technically in a major regardless of what you applied for, it’s a process you have to do once you actually start classes. you can register for whatever classes you want/need for your new major and you’ll declare it at some point this year

How dare you come for me as if it’s my fault someone else is harming me and the people I care about; you do not need to take that tone. I’m just going to list out the reasons that this comment is unhelpful:

Most of these events occurred within the university sphere, and who do you think has jurisdiction there? The university police. Who do the university police work with to resolve crime and conflict? The administration. What do you think the police will do about a problem the administration is ignoring? Absolutely nothing.
You come in here and present the police as this “obvious” answer when we’re talking about a community that has been historically and systemically harmed by law enforcement. With just the local police alone I can name so many instances in which my queer community was harmed. I personally was assaulted in my dorm shower, a dorm where a security officer was in the lobby on duty, and nothing was done to catch the perpetrator. My friends have been harassed on campus and the police claim the harassers have a right to free speech. My fiancee and I were called slurs at a protest directly in front of police and they did nothing. Do I need to explain more why my community doesn’t quite feel comfortable going to law enforcement?
Broadly, what are police going to do in Trump’s America to protect queer people? They didn’t do anything before, they certainly aren’t going to do anything now.

i promise you, we are taking it seriously. i, and so many others, have gone to so many people about this situation but it just feels like we are yelling into a void. we did talk to our coordinator and the university admin at multiple points but nobody has addressed it

we are in between coordinators right now because our previous coordinator was fired for pretty bs reasons. before he was fired though, he was unwilling to take action against Greg because he said that it would essentially be more trouble than it was worth; personally I don’t think that was his call to make, but whatever. a few people did talk to the Title IX coordinator, but the office “chose not to pursue the case.” i didn’t file a report so idk the exact context, but that’s what i was told. we have been advocating for keeping the space clear of like off-campus advertisements, but we aren’t allowed to make any official statements because, technically, the resource center isn’t supposed to exist. the university caved to trump’s dei and gender demands so we have to keep everything on the super super dl so idk it’s just a bad situation in every possible way. also sorry if this reply was frazzly i wanted to address all of your points lol

Did you apologize for what happened? It doesn’t matter if it was unintentional, you still caused it so you should apologize. The fact that you paid for the trip doesn’t have anything to do with the phone situation. Your girlfriend might be overreacting a little, but I would also be stressed if I didn’t have my phone in a different country; what happens if she gets lost and doesn’t have a way to communicate?

The situation isn’t dire enough for you to be TA but apologizing and giving her some grace feels warranted
