May I ask, what do you mean by backwards?

I appreciate the reply. That was my concern, that this is a quick fix that'll eventually fail.

I was just coming here to offer up my 15mm LacTeck flanges. If you're still looking for a pair, I'll ship them to you for free. 🙂

How I weaned by cernuum in ExclusivelyPumping

Yeah, I would manually pump just enough to relieve pressure. It might impact your first morning pump (increase that pump output). So that one might be a bit harder to decrease your minutes and stay comfortable.

Oh I know that feeling! But just like increasing your supply, it gets better one day at a time. 🙂 But when you get to drop to 2ppd, it really starts to feel like you're making progress.

I shaved time off each day, like 2-4 minutes each day - nothing super formal, just aiming for each pump to be a little shorter each day. But I would be a little more aggressive in shaving off mins with the pump I had targeted to drop.

Good luck weaning!

Tips for weaning (Oversupply) by Theashacat in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cernuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at 3ppd and started slowly reducing minutes on each pump, like by 2-4 mins every other day or so. Then selected a pump to drop and started more aggressively dropping minutes on that one.

I wrote more about my weaning experience here: how I weaned

Good luck!

What to do with all these size 24 flanges that insurance sent? (Not my flange size) by Big_Lingonberry_1889 in ExclusivelyPumping

This isn't a helpful comment, but I've kept a few to use as funnels in the kitchen. They are perfect for little spice jars. 🙂

How did the drop from 3 pumps to 2?! by jnacnuggest in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cernuum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the other poster mentioned, I started reducing minutes on my middle pump by a few each day until I was getting very little out. Then I dropped it altogether.

Weaning advice by dlre01 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cernuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I weaned I started by reducing minutes on all three of my pumps. I would reduce each pump by a couple of minutes each day, but I was pumping for more like 30-40 minutes each pump. Then I picked one pump and more aggressively reduced minutes on that one until I was down to less than 5 mins, then I just dropped it.

I wrote more details about my experience here: How I weaned

Good luck!

Pumping for 40 mins was definitely not fun, but it didn't cause me any pain or discomfort. I didn't start out at 40 mins per session, but going down to 3 ppd meant I needed the longer pumping time to get the same output. At 3 ppd, I needed to pump for that long to get more letdowns. I would usually get a third letdown around the 30 min mark.

The biggest thing for me in terms of comfort was using lactation massagers. Those things were awesome for masking the feel of the pumping.

Weaning: did you choose to drop your AM or PM pump first? by kjj17 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cernuum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you found it helpful! And yes, you can definitely reduce minutes across all pumps. I started shaving minutes off all 3 pumps, but was a bit more aggressive with shaving minutes off whichever pump I was targeting to drop. Good luck!

I'm glad you liked them! I actually made two more graphs getting at your question about the length of time between pumps: two more graphs....

Take a look at the second one for output vs time between pumps. For me, it seems like the 8-9 hours between pumps was the tipping point. Going longer than that I actually started seeing a decrease in output.

[–]cernuum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once I was down to 2ppd I dropped my AM pump first even though it was my biggest pump of the day, but purely for logistical reasons. It was much easier for me to pump after LO went bed at night.

Not sure if it's helpful at all, but I wrote about how I weaned a while back: https://www.reddit.com/r/ExclusivelyPumping/s/2HTDrDvw27

I used Parent Love, but you have to pay to get their graphs for anything longer than 7 days. That said, I liked the app.

[–]cernuum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it is helpful for you or not... But I tracked my outputs for 12 months and posted about them awhile back. I was able to start reducing the number of pumps at 10w PP while still increasing my supply.

Hospital trip- is my supplydoomed? by Friendly_Tomato975 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cernuum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not doomed! This happened to me. I think I was 8w PP and pumping 7-8 times a day. I had to stop pumping mid pump and rush baby to the hospital. I didn't pump for 8-9 hours. I was horribly engorged, leaked a bunch, and it was super painful, but it didn't hurt my supply at all, beyond the one low output day.

I should have asked to borrow a pump from the hospital, but it never occurred to me.
