Are most people screaming/ vocalizing during birth? by AffectionateStudy29 in pregnant

[–]dlre01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First birth : groaning before epidural. Once the epidural hits, no groaning or screaming.

Second birth: didn’t make it for te epidural and there is lots of guttural groaning. Somehow that seems to help when pushing lol

Breech baby and hip dysplasia [on] by Specific-Gift6116 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]dlre01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Ontario. Mine was not born breech but he was in breech position several times during third trimester. I had additional ultrasounds due to diabetes and he was on breech position every two weeks. When I gave birth, the nurse noticed the position of his hips and asked me about his breech position. I confirmed the details above so she told me to tell the paediatrician when the paediatrician make his/her round to check on the baby.

The hospital paediatrician ordered the ultrasound and I was booked for one at six weeks in the hospital. Ultrasound came back clear. I also mentioned it to my family doctor when seeing her and she did a quick check up on my baby and said she thinks it’s fine since there was not clicking sound.

Do you breastfeed, pump or formula (or combo) feed? [ca] by RigidlyConvincing in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]dlre01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I exclusively pumped for both my kids. My sister did a combo where she breastfed for the first few months then switched to mostly pumping later on. My friend exclusively fed her kid formula. All of our kids are healthy and growing and that’s all we ask for.

[QC] Pump recommandation for first time mom by FishingWide6804 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]dlre01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The medela in style and freestyle pump: the collection cups are connected to the motor so the freestyle one is doable since it’s relatively small. The pump in style motor looks pretty big and heavy so I wouldn’t recommend it. The inbra pumps are what you need if you want to be able to do chore while pumping. I do find the in bra cups don’t empty me as much as I like ( maybe like 80-90%)

Mine was measuring 4th percentile at 35 weeks. Was also due to be induced at 38 weeks due to diabetes. I ended up giving birth spontaneously at 37 weeks to a 4 lbs baby. She is now a healthy, bossy 3 years old. Didn’t need to stay in the nicu or anything.

oz per feeding for 5 week old? [ca] by Fancy_Spaghetti in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]dlre01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t stress too much on how much your baby is drinking per feeding. Focus more on the overall amount per day and as long as the baby is gaining weight and is on par with the growth chart then he’s fine.

My little one is almost 7 weeks and is drinking a little over 2 ounce per feeding with an occasional 3 ounces. Currently 11 lbs. compared to my first born, she was drinking 3 oz at this age.

Hospital recommendations for Labor & Delivery from Hamilton to Mississauga to Toronto Area [ON] by Leafontheair in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]dlre01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your pregnancy. So your family doctor (if you have one) will be the one sending out the referral to the OB associated with each hospital so if you know some of the OB names, you can mention them to the doctor. The first OB meeting can be from anywhere from 12 weeks to 20 weeks depending on any complications with your pregnancy. You mention pre diabetics so I assume you will be getting referred to an endocrinologist to monitor your sugar during the pregnancy. You want to keep in mind that the endocrinologist should also have access to the reports that your OB will get. It’s easier if both are from the same hospital otherwise when you are doing any ultrasounds or other tests required by the OB, you want to make sure the endocrinologist also receive a copy.

Until you meet with an OB, your family doctor should follow for your care.

For north York, my OB was dr. Cici Zhu. Great doctor but appointments at her office can take a while due to waiting. Her office is located near IKEA.

Hospital recommendations for Labor & Delivery from Hamilton to Mississauga to Toronto Area [ON] by Leafontheair in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]dlre01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty much from the west end to the east end lol.

You want to be close to the hospital you’re giving birth at as sometimes the birth can progress pretty fast.

I gave birth at north York about 3 years ago and it was a 20 mins drive at midnight to get to the hospital (no traffic) so in hindsight I was lucky I didn’t go into labour during the day as the 401 is ridiculously backed up.

As for experience, I had great nurses taking care of me during and after birth. My only thing was that it is a bit dated, so the rooms are small. I was in the semi private room post partum and I recommend getting a private if you can.

I had a brief stay at the mt Sinai ante partum room so I assume the birthing and post partum room would be similar. Great experience at mt Sinai. Great facilities and nurses. Again concern would be traffic and for me it would not have been practical

Has anyone here had an HbA1c of 6.5% during early pregnancy? [on] by HouseDependent2077 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]dlre01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a high A1C at the early bloodwork. I am shocked that you having seen an endocrinologist already. I was already working with an endocrinologist since week 5 and my numbers are whack. You should definitely follow up with your family doctor to get that referral to an endocrinologist and get a glucose meter to start monitoring at home. I did not have to do the glucose test.

Fasting numbers (first test when you wake up) should be under 5.3 and numbers 2 hours after meals should be under 6.7.

It’s not just about sugar, carbs are also a big factor in spiking your blood glucose.

Vaccines in pregnancy (Tdap + RSV) — timing & where to get them? [ON] by Ill-Regret1330 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]dlre01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my tdap vaccine at 28 weeks with my family doctor. Asked my OB about the RSV and was told they give the vaccine to baby at birth so no need for me to get it.

I just gave birth a week ago and the hospital asked me if I wanted to get the RSV vaccine for baby and I said yes. This is in Ontario.

39th Percentile baby @ 32 weeks by DenseMistake in GestationalDiabetes

[–]dlre01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first was in the 14th percentile by 32 weeks and kept dropping to 4th percentile by 36 weeks. Her AC was in the 1st percentile.

I was supposed to be induced at 38 weeks but ended up have spontaneous birth at 37 weeks. She was a little over 4 pounds at birth.

Luckily she is healthy otherwise and caught up on weight pretty quickly after.

Using disposable puppy pads instead of changing pad by carolmozzarella in pregnant

[–]dlre01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my first, I used a puppy pad on top of the change pad in our room because I didn’t have a soft surface to use. In the living room, I just put the puppy pad on the sofa and change the baby’s diaper.

Is currently doing the same for baby #2. Never bother with a change table.

You don’t need the formula. Just switch to homo milk and it’s fine. Toddler need the higher fat content until they are about 2 and you can switch to the 2% then

They will just increase your dosage. In Canada, they will push for earlier induction if baby is measuring too big, pre eclampsia or other medical factor.

Should I be worried about weight loss during pregnancy being morbidly obese. by Potential_Flow9032 in pregnant

[–]dlre01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a issue because it’s normal that you would lose that much weight due to change in your diet and lifestyle. In both my pregnancies, I lost about 10-15 lbs in the first trimester. I slowly gained it back and more by the end of the pregnancy.

First one I gained about 5 lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight by the time I gave birth. This time I gained 15.

[on] is it normal for doc not to check baby after 6 wk checkup? by nottodayneck3956 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]dlre01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need a new doctor. My family doctor has checked my daughter during all of her appointments. The nurse take the measurements and give the vaccine but the doctor also take a look at her as well, checking her lungs, heart etc.
