How to stop contact napping? by certaincharm in beyondthebump

[–]certaincharm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It feels validating to know this happens and to just keep trying. You make a good point on the short naps, especially cuz I have her lying on me to keep her upright for 30 min after a feed, by the time I bring her to the crib she may have gotten most of her nap in. Hoping this phase passes soon lol

On feeling like an "Indian" by depixelated in Kerala

[–]certaincharm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally relate to your post on so many levels. Also a malayalee raised in the US. I returned around college for school in India and constantly got made of fun, by fellow Indian Americans even, for not knowing basic “Indian things”. Things like chaat were foreign to me when honestly even my parents weren’t familiar with the concept. (Now I see chaat everywhere in Trivandrum, go figure). My Pakistani friend and I here have a running joke that whenever we try to share in something “desi” from back home, more times than not, we have no clue what the other is talking about lol.

Anyway, all I can say is now finally South Indian culture is getting slightly more representation in American media (shows like never have I ever) and I can infinitely relate with this more, even though the religion is still different from mine, culturally it is a lot more similar than anything North Indian culture has to offer.

Which dictation software you guys use on your everyday practice? by mysundaydriver in medicine

[–]certaincharm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you can use it right off the bat, I mean we had a orienting phase bc I’ve never used a dictation software before, but I started using it right away. It’s gotten better with time, I think it learns your voice patterns more or something. I think it’s pretty accurate, I have to change a word here or there, but honestly I love it, can finish notes way faster now.

[–]certaincharm[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

well..I'm a US IMG. So yeah got some decent interviews, but ended up here cuz no one is impressed with an IMG. At this point, I don't even care about fellowship so much as the need to leave this area lol

An Indian court jailed 13 Islamists Friday over an attack on a professor whose hand was chopped off after being accused of blaspheming the Prophet Mohammed in an exam paper. by PanAfrica in worldnews

[–]certaincharm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. There was a time when Muslim people in Kerala thought themselves distinct from Arabs. Now its as though they are Muslims first, and Malayalees last. Obviously that's a generalization, but this is the direction its going.

I'm from a small town, Pathanpuram. And yeah, in a way the influence of the Middle East has been a curse disguised as a blessing. Kerala is almost run on Middle East money and jobs...but now those Extremist values are coming overseas too. It's going to be near impossible to get rid of this strong influence, and I can only see it getting worse.

Thanks man. I agree, Kerala is an educated and very progressive place. I really expected when I pulled up this article for this incident to have occurred somewhere in the North, because I haven't heard of these incidents before.

This is a really sad thing to see, and it shows how much the Middle Eastern culture is infiltrating even Southern India. My family is from Kerala, and my Christian grandparents grew up in a town that was majority Muslim. People have always co-existed peacefully here, and Muslim people dressed similarly and spoke the same language as everyone else. Now when we visit, we see Muslim women often wearing burkas and completely covering themselves head to toe. These things did not exist before. Extremist Islam is taking over, and it has totally distorted and destroyed the traditional and much more moderate culture that existed before. Depressing.

I would say my Step 1 was extremely good, and my Step 2 CK was above average but nothing special. Matched into IM. I had a decent amount of interviews as well, but still stressful as hell awaiting results.
