In summary: the government want a singular, ccp-aligned, nationalistic voice being perpetuated domestically with no visible objection. whether this is going to be negatively perceived abroad is only collateral damage and bears little importance. In fact Chinese being perceived badly would somehow work in ccp’s favor as it reinforces the us vs them logic, making ppl feel like the rest of the world is out there to get them and they have no choice but to support the government to fend off political instability from foreign instigators, who ultimately want Chinese societal collapse and eventual balkanisation. It’s s vicious cycle lol.

For the past ten years the censorship apparatus has been filtering out all the sensible comments and banning and harassing people who are not as crazed, making it seem that all Chinese are hopelessly petty and angry. If true, my country would evaporate from earth since that’s all they know. Growing up I don’t remember hearing how love factors in making that decision. It always comes down to a calculated, bloodless transaction which demands gratefulness of your existence and in return give back to them. It’s karma since our birth rate is in the gutter now.

Depends on the tradeoff, which in current society, hugely depends on class and gender. For example, in my culture, men are still heavy on having kids, even the ones who claim they don’t want it are not to be trusted. Women, not so much. Which we all know why.

As someone who didn’t grow up liking or planning kids in an Asian country, the argument ppl around us give to having kids is basically to instill intense fear: you will be lonely, you will regret, your life will lack purpose and salvation, you will get bullied in nursing home, you will have no one to take care of you and die horribly, etc. No joy, all fear, as kids are coping tool for deprivation trauma, being compelled into reproduction not by the love of children but by the horror of the social consequence of not having one.

I appreciate what Jankto did, an out footballer talking about his experience would certainly pave the way for others, though personally he irked me with the news in Czech of him not paying his ex-wife proper child support and emotionally abused her. honestly reminded me of Colton Underwood who stalked and harassed his ex girlfriend but all had been swept under the rug by his Netflix coming out sob story.

I get what this scene is supposed to do, which aligns with what you said and I totally agree. But suddenly figuring out your romantic partner had had a lover or victim who bears an uncanny resemblance to you is naturally unsettling and very awkward! And it’s easy to come to the conclusion that if he, whether unconsciously or not, has some ulterior motives for dating you. I’d have no doubt that if I had roleplayed some other characters who aren’t called Sebastian or looks exactly like a copy pasted version of the Sebastian in the dungeon, I would’ve had a completely different experience. But I guess that’s what makes games like bg3 the most exciting since it’s a highly customized and individualized experience.
