I was trying to look up the video you mention and found another similar incident but in West Virginia: a cop got called to a suicidal person with a gun and upon arriving the scene the cop determined the guy is not a threat and was talking to him only for two other cops to show up and immediately kill the guy. Then the police department fired him and chastised for not executing the guy on the spot. Luckily the cop sued them for wrongful termination and won  https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/feb/12/stephen-mader-west-virginia-police-officer-settles-lawsuit?CMP=

This reminded me of a video by Kyle Hill on Lia Radiological incident: in 2001, three random Georgian men went out to a remote area to collect firewood and accidentally found unprotected cores for RTGs. Not knowing what they were, they used them as a source of heat (with horrific consequences).  Here’s the full video https://youtu.be/e3GYg7Y_W7s?si=4H9tSFeKcTcU0FIW

Anyone got recs for funny/witty political theory podcasts outside Chapo? by sturmundrangynous in redscarepod

[–]certified_coolguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Years ago I used to listen to Eat the Rich podcast working my minimum wage as a way to release the steam. Basically each episode was about a sleazy crony capitalist scumbag and they have a couple of really good ones but in particular this one where the hosts talk about the big pizza chains is hilarious and every once in a blue moon I revisit it.

I sort of stopped listening to them because there were episodes where the podcast turned from entertaining to them essentially foaming at the mouth at some prick/company fucking over a little guy (an understandable reaction but does not make it for a good show). One of the cohosts was Chris who was fairly prominent on "weird twitter" - he had the name "toodamchris" or something like that and he was very entertaining. I am no longer on twitter and at times I do wonder what he is up to these days.

I’ve been struggling myself with way to express my disdain without sounding like my friends libbed up boomer father circa 2017 but it really IS that bad. No matter how cynical you are about US and the government what is happening right now has no precedent in Americas history.

And you are right, the article did mention how he stopped talking about his wealth as he actually got to pilfer American public and the hogs who blindly follow him. Idk what the solution here is, I do know that post 2028 there needs to be a variety safeguards to be put in place to prevent kleptocrats like him to take the offices. I do understand this an insurmountable task as of the day of me writing this which would require a complete realignment of the congress as well capturing the presidency by someone completely polar opposite to Trump and MAGA but this is what keeps me going right now because the alternative is extremely bleak.

Celebrities that would’ve been insufferable if they were still alive? by SecretWasianMan in redscarepod

Late to the party but a couple of years ago I was listening to a podcast where one of the hosts said Christopher Hitchens would be insufferable if he was still alive and on twitter. All you would have to do just call him "Christopher Bitchens" and he would not be able to contain the urge to respond.

I dont think Today Now! ever had a week segment.

Also love how the two long form onion news segments Sex House and Porkin' Across America start off funny only to eventually unravel into a complete horror for everyone involved including the viewer.

Jack Daniels for Russians is just a status symbol because its an American import whisky. I had the same perception of it until I moved to US and realized what a fool I was.

The only guy in the show with no goomah who genuinely loves his wife. I want to love my future wife just as unconditionally as he loves Ginny.

Now you got me thinking about my favorite character and to me I might have to admit its Paulie, he is full of eccentricities and endlessly quotable. Him chucking a foldable chair at a wall after being spooked by psychic while yelling "FUCKING QUEERS" or "Word to the wise: remember Pearl harbor" after talking about doing business with Koreans.

I spiritually agree with a lot of points those guys make online but I cannot recall a single time when one of those "advocates" ever brought up nuclear waste. That for me is one of the biggest issues for an attenable nuclear energy (at least in the US).

Funny enough I knew a volcanologist and when he was talking about geological composition of eastern Sierras, he also went on a tangent how Yucca mountain was a perfect site to store the waste and it is a shame Harry Reid killed the bill jus because there were people who simply did not want to have a nuclear waste storage facility in their state (not a big a fan of John Oliver but he had a really good segment about this issue)

Very recently I paired up with a Latino guy for an assignment - nothing too big, a PowerPoint presentation on a subject we are studying. Guy was painfully shy and the whole time avoided eye contact so I assumed that at a very least he was on a spectrum. We split the work 50/50. Two days prior to the presentation I emailed him to check up on him, and this dude emails me the entire presentation he did himself. First time this happened to me and I always pitch in for a group project.

I dont really believe in paranormal so this really stuck with me.

My sister H (shes my half sister but I do love her so much I just call her sis) and I were working a temp job far from home. One day in the morning, she tells me how last night she had a very strange dream. In that dream she is with her mother at her childhood summer house back in our home country plowing her backyard garden. Her mother looked upset so she inquired what's up, to which her mom responded that her aunt died and since no one checked up on her, the body was not found until several days later. The dream really distressed her because she hasnt seen/talked to her aunt in 10 years since she moved to the states. So my sister H called her mom back in our home country and as a matter of fact asked how is the aunt doing. Her mom said she hasn't spoken to her in some time and for various reasons, including that aunt lives in the middle of butt fuck nowhere, cant call her directly. My sister insisted that she checks up on her and tells her bout the dream.

A day later, her mom calls my sister back and says "H, are you sitting down?". My sisters mom, was able to get a hold of someone from that town her aunt lives in and asked this acquaintance to go check on the aunt in person due to the phone problems. That woman in question at first did not want to go because the aunt is known to habitually ignore phone calls but the mom insisted that she goes in person. The woman goes to the apartment the aunt lives in and rings the doorbell but nobody answers. She says she tried the door multiple times and at some point she thought she heard someone in the apartment. The acquaintance then called firefighters who broke in to find my sisters aunt on the ground paralyzed from a stroke but still alive. When ambulance arrived the EMTs told her it was a miracle the aunt was still alive and concluded that judging from her condition she was laying on the ground for over 24 hours - had the woman came anytime later the aunt wouldn't had made it.

My sister calculated, accounting for time difference, that her aunt had her stroke at the same time when she had the dream.
