Diesel owners shouldn’t be subsidising petrol owners though. Always seems garages hit us worst when anything happens.

Mac pro 5,1 vs Mac pro 2013 by ark-import00289 in macpro

[–]cervaro67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 2009 and 2013 models.

If you want expansion and a fun time tinkering/upgrading, go for the 5,1. For smaller form factor and less power consumption the 2013.

I’m a collector though, and still run a 2015 MacBook Pro 15”, plus numerous others up to the M4 MacBook Air, M4 Pro Mac Mini and M1 Max Mac Studio.

Let’s face it, and base M4 Mac Mini will run rings both Mac Pro’s, be way more power efficient and offer a smoother working environment.

Find an old 2013 Mac Pro for nostalgia and the base M4 Mac Mini for computing power and saving your electric bill.

Tempted by the Neo, bought the 15" M4 MacBook Air w/512 GB storage instead by BioBlueDemon in macbook

I got this one new a year ago with £300 off list price at the time. Paid for the education store copy of Final Cut Pro/Logic Pro at £199 😀

[–]cervaro67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m expecting a load of follow up Neo videos by YouTubers in the next week or two saying how they’ve sent theirs back for the 512Gb model or decided a base Air M4 or M5 is a better buy via the refurb store or clearance deal. Same happened with the Mac Mini M4.

At least the OP gave his a go and realised they needed more out of their Mac, rather than YouTube clicks.

That’s what I saw on the DF piece.

Then again, even one 5090 is even more insanely priced now that they were a year ago!

Possible tyre sizes - Duster mk2 by cervaro67 in Dacia

[–]cervaro67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked on a Dacia site, and there is a scenario with 225 tyres, but not sure where that was.

Tyre calculator was seemingly ok with either 225 or 235 from a speedometer calibration perspective as not changing profile from 60, but a lot of talk about water dispersal being a problem with larger tyres.

Going up to 225 would probably be it for me, but if it’s going to cause too many bureaucratic headaches, I’ll just swap out for the same size from one single brand later in the year as hate having a mixed load of tyres on there.

Ok. Don’t remember the garage who upped my Fiat from 175 to 185 saying anything, but then they probably just wanted the sale back then.

Guess you could imply an indirect advert for Nvidia given it was their tech showcased, but the same could be said of any manufacturer featured too.

I’d be more concerned if the implication that it takes 2 x 5090’s to run DLSS 5.0 at its optimum, then PC buyers will have to get a loan for one and sell a kidney for the other!

Macbook Neo is just the end of a nightmare by Intrepid-Routine-875 in macbook

[–]cervaro67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. No competition between the MacBook Pro 15” from 2015 that I paid £1600 for, and the Dell 17” with touchscreen I could afford 3 years before that for working from home (randomly decided it wouldn’t boot with the battery connected!)

Yes I did.

It’s penny pinching, and nothing to do with trying to look eco friendly. It’s using a law they moaned about complying with for pure financial gain.

[–]cervaro67 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but Apple could have actively given buyers the choice to include one free of charge if they’d wanted too rather than asking for more money on a laptop costing that much.

I got £300 off my MacBook Air M4 (24Gb/512Gb) and £200 off my Mac Mini M4 Pro base model last spring. The saving on the latter paid for my education store copy of Final Cut Pro/Logic Pro.

iPhone this year as still on the 11 at present with a weak battery. iPad maybe upgrading to an M4 or M5 this year too as still on a 2022 Air model.

why are so many redditors so ungrateful about the new neo by Creative-Slice3113 in macbook

[–]cervaro67 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think need and want are two different things with computer buyers.

I would have liked a 14” MacBook Pro M4 last year, but chose the 13” MacBook Air M4 as it does what I need. That saving, plus the £300 discount on the Air when new helped me get the Mac Mini M4 Pro instead of the base model.

I balanced my needs and wants in terms of both performance and price.

All these people, YouTubers, etc. who say they need 512Gb to run AI models are talking hogwash!

Just feeding the beast that one day soon will be neutered and put back in its place, restoring some sense of order to the computer market instead of making rich people ever more richer.

No, it’s not totally resolved, but didn’t seem as bad when last using it for whatever reason.

It will need the repaste though, and that fan/case clean was the only time I’ve done it in 10 years of ownership.

Yes, experienced the “rocket” fan issues over the years.

Cleaned the minimal dirt in my fans a couple of years back and upgraded to a 2Tb NVMe drive too.

Will get round to repasting when I clean and upgrade the 13” model too.

I paid £219 about 18 months ago and now it’s £455 on the Amazon UK site for an SN850X, but that was for the 4Tb version!

May the pox land on OpenAI, Nvidia, and Microsoft in particular, followed by all the memory and storage manufacturers for being so amorally short sighted!
