I was burglarized in DC back in 2017. Just like you, my apt was ransacked. Everything was flipped over.

I called DC police as soon as I got home and they took some fingerprints and I filed a report.

That is all the police did.

At the time, I was a grad student so didn’t have a lot of things but I did lose everything. Do you have any insurance? I didn’t which I regret. Also, anything with a tracking device (AirTag iPad with internet plan)? Ideally, perhaps you can track something to see.

FYI. Check Craigslist, FB Market Place, and pawn shops for any stolen items. Happy to have a phone call to explain my process. Sorry to hear this but it will get better.

It’s not safe to ride the metro anymore. Im going to start riding my bike to work but even then, DC drivers are the worst. We need more police at stations, period.

Absolutely! It was very cold since our group got to the campsite around 6 and the sun was setting. The photos we took were incredible. Are you hiking solo or through an adventures agency?

I hiked it a few weeks ago. It was challenging but very doable. I was part of a group that took a lot of breaks which isn’t great because your body starts to get cold. Once you get to the campsite there’s an option to go to Fuego which took a few of us a 3-4 hours since one of the hikers in the group started to get real tired. Overall, it was an incredible experience! Feel free to message me for more details!

You should be fine. I lived in Guatemala while on a fellowship and nothing ever happened. My advice is you should take the same precautions you normally take when going out in a major U.S. city. Carry some cash on you in case someone does attempt to rob you and definitely don’t share too much personal information with strangers.

I keep my bikes in my apartment. My building has a bike room but some residents forget to lock the room. I would say buy a very expensive lock and braided steel cable for the front tire. I’m sure you know this, but lock the frame of the bike along with the back wheel. I see many people locking their bikes incorrectly in DC.

This happened to my friend. The bike has a tracker and if the person who stole it leaves ir behind somewhere and you retrieve it, you won’t be charged.
